987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Video
Hi Cayman enthusiats,
First of all I would like to intodruce myself. My name is Michael and I live in the near of Wuerzburg in Bavaria Germany. In March 2012 I bought a Cayman S Facelift and was very happy with it in the first year. Directly after the purchase I installed 35mm H&R springs. Also I visited several tracks over here in Germany in 2012 such as Hockenheim, Nuerburgring Nordschleife and the Porsche test track at Leipzig facilities.
After about 20k kilometres in 2012 I decided to change some performance parts due to my track experiences - or better said, I just wanted to make the car little more superior. In February this year I installed the large 6-Caliper GT3 Brake on the front with a 350mm Porsche Turbo Disc. Also I switched the front and rear pads to EBC Redstuff and installed Stahlflex brake lines (hope this is the correct word?).
Furthermore I was a little bit disappointed about the power in the lower and mid rpm regions, so I decided to change the whole exhaust system. I chosed a Manthey Motors solutions, which is nearly similar to FVD and M&M Exhaust. (Over here in Germany M&M Exhaust in Annaberg produces all systems for FVD and Manthey and some other Tuners - they have a very good reputation in the Porsche Motorsports scene)
The next step will be to install a Bilstein B16 Damptronic suspension, because I´m not happy with my acutal PASM and -35mm H&R solution. Also I´ll install an IPD comp Plenum with the 82mm throttle body. The final step the will be the optimization of the ECU to the changes.
But enough words for so far, here is the promised Video of the exhaust system. (0-220 km/h - Sport mode activated - I´ll upload some more photos when the weather over here is better, because it´s snowing again):

Welcome! Very nice mods and well planned out future mods. The video sounds amazing and thanks for posting.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
What was bad about the H&R springs / 35mm drop?
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
The exhaust sounds wicked!!
I should do one with the fabspeed race to compare!
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
What was required in order to fit the 6-piston caliper / 350mm rotor up front??
I've been investigating a simliar upgrade using brake parts from a 991 Carrera S (6-piston / 340mm). I've been told this will only "bolt-on" if I have the PCCB braking system, which I don't. LA Dismantlers wants $800 for the mounting hub / steering knuckles from a PCCB car, plus another $1700 for the 991 S brakes.
Thanks for any info.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Congrats and welcome.
In addition to the excellent sounding exhaust, it looks like you have an aerokit installed. Great looking (and sounding) car.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
At first, thanks to all for the welcome wishes!
@Rubber_Ducky: Correct, the car has an Aero Kit - in my eyes a big difference to the normal K-men.
@4by4: The car has the PASM option from factory. With the lower H&R springs for my taste it´s too hard on public streets even in normal mode. Sport mode is undrivable when you go fast on countryside. The car feels like jumping around.:helpme:
On the other side for example in Hockenheim on Track it´s too soft even when you shift the shock absorbers to Sport.
Some guys over here had made good experiences with the Bilstein B16. Softer in normal mode (while the car comes lower to the street) and more sportive and harder in sport mode. I think Bilstein would fit better in my needs.
@Matt at Dunlop:
Bolt-on won´t work, because the normal Cayman S has 130mm installment holes in the wheel carriers while the GT3 is using 142,5mm! Perhaps an Adapter solution would work, but that´s not street legal over here due to governmental directives.
You´ll need the following parts (Prices I paid in Euros):
Wheel carriers from the 997S (500,- € used - Attention, only the 2S carriers will work) 99734115725 & 99734115825
Bolts 4x 99906705309 (about 30,- €)
EBC Redstuff Brake Pads for GT3 (about 130,- €) EBC Brakes Shop UK - you can choose your favourite pads, OEM or after market.
6-Caliber Brake (800,- € - ordered via Porsche Motorsport in Weissach - there they´re cheaper than the normal ones due to subsidy)
Finally I chosed the 350mm 997 Turbo Brake Discs. (about 350,- for both) I could go for 380mm but they would be much more expensive.
When you´ll do this project you should also change the brake lines to steel brake lines and use a better fluid such as Castrol SRF or Ferodo Racing Formula.
Below you´ll find some bad IPhone photos from the Installation process.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
In the states talk to Dwain at Vision Motorsports [phone removed], for a kit with an adapter to use Cup Car/GT3 6 piston calipers in a Cayman S. I also chose 350mm since I wanted it to fit with 18" wheels.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Lefrog, thanks for the feedback.
Im interested to go lower but dont want to ruin my normal mode daily comfort settings.
Yet sport mode is still needed for track duty.
Ive looked around and its near impossible to compare the specs of B16 Damptronics with stock gen2 PASM.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Very nice mods! How does your new exhaust compare with the Remus in terms of of mid/low torque?

Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
I never had a Remus Exhaust - only the PSE. Below you can find a dyno chart before (PSE) and after exhaust system (already EWG corrected - recalculated 343,2 PS = 338 HP)
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Sorry, when you said you had the "Facelift" I thought you were referring to the gen ii Remus exhaust.
Thanks for posting.

Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
I'm currently upgrading my Porsche Boxster S 987 (Gen1) to this setup, did you change the brake disc cover plate to a porsche 997 turbo one to match the disc?
I'm not sure if this will fit as they use a different carrier and I'm concerned the existing cover plate is for the smaller C2S disc? Finally have you noticed a difference in handling/performance by adding more unsprung weight to the front wheels? Does this modification effect the overall brake bios?
Many thanks!
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Here´s the copy of my private message, perhaps it´s also good to know for other members.
Hi,
I´ll try to answer your questions as adequate as my english knowledges will allow...
There´s no need to change the original brake disc cover plate to the 350mm one. The stock 987S (I have a 987.2) will fit the 997.1S wheel carriers, which are needed to install the big 6 pistons caliper. There are two different 6-piston calipers, one from the 997.1 GT3 Models and 997.1 PCCB Models and the newer ones from the Generation 997.2 GT3. The newer ones will also need the original Porsche adapter so that you can mount them to the wheel carriers. (Comes stock with the GT3 MK2 models - advantage hereby is, that you can also install the big 380mm brake disc from the 997 Cup cars)
The weight of undampened mass on the front (i hope you understand what i mean) is irrelevant. We´re talking about less than 2 pounds on the front axle. It´s not that much difference. But I would recommend that you install also the H&R anti roll kit front and rear or, the anti roll bar from the cayman r front. They are more massive - approx 2mm - and made of full material. Also it would be make more sense, thinking about lighter wheels such aus OZ Formula HLT or Ultraleggera or Motec Nitro.
This will give you a more direct car und reduces the understeering characteristics from the stock car. I changed to h&r, too. Really new driving experience.
Also, when changing the brake calipers, i recommend to intall the master brake cylinder of the gt3 model, because you have a more sensitive and harder brake paddle - ideal for sportive driving on the road and track.
for even more reserves in the brake system, you can also swap the stock "brake booster" (german Bremskraftverstärker - don´t know if that´s correct translated) to the PCCB Model for the 987.1 & 987.2 cars. This part can be purchased for less money from the after market, directly as a TRW replacement. (the factory stock one is also from trw). I repeat, you can but you don´t have to. When you decide doing so, the car has to be coded via durametric to pccb setup.
Also you then have two options:
front, 6 pistons with 350mm disc (turbo or gt3 gen1)
rear stock cayman s
or
front 6 pis - 350mm
rear, the stock caliper from the front, with a brake disc from the 993 gt2 (please be aware, an able mechanic should perform this mod - and here the bigger brake booster is needed!)

Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
In the meanwhile I changed some other parts also:
First I changed the suspension to the TechArt Vario Plus Coilovers. It´s similar to the B16 damptronic, but with other spring rates. (In german "Federkennlinie")
Then I had the possibility to trade my Sports Seats against genuine GT2 Carbon Fiber seats - had to pay some Euros on top...
Lighter OZ Formula HLT - 8.5x19 Front 235/35 Michelin and 265/35 rear with addational 15mm H&R Spacers left and right
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Also we installed the H&R Anti Roll Kit, when installing the TechArt Coilovers:
Another mod was the IPD Comp Plenum with 82mm
Combined with my other mods, the car goes really fast on the "Autobahn"
Max was 310 KM/h digital speedmeter that time, but it was hard taken a photo at that speed with one hand on the wheel. I had no GPS on board. Next time I have to do some GPS measuring, which real top speed the car can do. I still have to do a software mod on the car capable to the mods, I think some additional hp can be achieved via programming. But summing up all facts, I´m more than satified with the performance of my Cayman.
Here´s a pic from the Nordschleife in the "Karussel", on this day I had installed my Ultraleggeras with Michelin cup tyres:
And here´s a short impression of the Cayman from the follower perspective. My american buddy, deployed over here in Germany, was with me at the Track filming out of his E92 M3:

Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
i like this build - a little bit of power but mostly suspension, brakes and seats.
do you know exact differences of the H&R sways bars vs stock?
their product descriptions doesn't say anything specific....
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
any pics of the exhaust
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Front bar is 2mm thicker - 26mm instead of 24mm - and 3-way adjustable. Also it´s build of full material, the oem one is hollow drilled.
The rear bar is similar to oem but 2-way adjustable, so you can choose your prefered hardness. Understeering is clearly reduced by this kit.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
I can make some from below the next time, the car is in a shop for service. You can also find details over here:
http://www.m-m-germany.de/CMS/tinym.../plugins/advimage/patchImage/qto/Produkte/Tuning/Boxster/Boxster_Datenblatt.pdf
I have the 87087 PowerKit customized. This guys are in eastern Germany and build the FVD Kits (similar) and Porsche Cup Exhausts.
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
the front one is thicker, but i don´t know if it´s stiffer also.
you have to put the front one to "soft" - so last hole of the three counting from the front of the swwy, the rear one to hard first of hole of the two.
also you should change your camber settings - i chosed much more aggressive settings than stock factory ones or the cayman r ones:
Front
Spur (gesamt): 0
Sturz: -1,95° bzw. -1°57'
Rear
Spur (gesamt): 0
Sturz: -2,15° bzw -2°09'
Sorry but I don´t know the correct translation for "Spur" and "Sturz" (probably angle)
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
The wheels look large in this picture - are those 19" or 20" OZ Ultra's (black)?
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Sorry for the late response, I´m not very often active over here. The OZs´are 19".
Re: 987.2 - GT3 6-Caliper Brake, V-Flow, Manthey Motors Exhaust & Cats & Headers - Vi
Some new upgrades for my car...
Can´twait until all the salt is gone from our German streets...

Hi Micheal I am looking at putting 996 GT3 6 pots on my 2001 Boxster 3.2S which I believe has same mounting pitch as the Cayman S 987.2. Do you have a picture of the adapter you used to mount the calipers?
