Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

my thought is if I run jumper wires to the dash light fuse and the tail light fuse I might get what I want.

The only issue would be if I want to use the fog lights I would have to turn the headlight switch on and then if I forget that I did that I would kill the battery.

If only the parking lights, do you still use the headlights switch to turn them fully on?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yes, that is how it worked on my car when I wired it as per the instructions.
Has anyone seen a way to get a headlights auto on/off function on a 996? There were a couple of solutions on the 997 forum but they don't work on the 996.
My headlights turn off with the key even if I leave the switch on (2002 996 targa), but the parking lights stay on plus the car throws a fit when I open the door. I haven't heard about any fully auto on/off feature on the 996.
There is an easy hack (link below) that will power your headlights on/off with the key, it involves a jumper wire in your fuse panel. Some owners who imported cars into Canada had to do this to pass the safety inspection which checks for DRL's. It is not the same as the factory DRL set-up, but it does by-pass your headlight switch and power up the circuit.

Does this hack keep the headlights fully on when the car starts, or only the parking lights? If only the parking lights, do you still use the headlights switch to turn them fully on?
Just so Im clear, this hack keeps the headlights on making them independent of the switch position, but for everything else (parking/ front & rear fogs) the switch will work?
TIA
What about a auto headlight module from Amazon?

This should turn them on and off with ambient light, but not sure what position would be best with the switch. The module also has a switch on it to disable the auto feature. Maybe attach to the parking light portion, that way you can still turn them full on when its dark out?
i just did this yesterday and its a bit disappointing. I was hoping that it would make it so I dont need to bother turning the headlight switch on ever and then didnt have to worry about leaving them on and killing my battery.
all this does is keep the headlights on when the ignition is on , it doesnt turn on the tail lights or the dash lights. So if I left the headlight switch off I would be able to see but without taillights it would be pretty dangerous.

a better solution would be find power that would only be on when the car is on and wire that directly to the headlight switch instead of the wire that is there now which always has power.
you could even take it a step further and put in a simple toggle have it so you can switch back and forth from always powered to only powered with ignition. That way if you ever needed to you could have the headlights on if the ignition was off.
