Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello just did the IMS bearing upgrade with the EPS alternative and I also changed the transmission oil and filter. I hear a whinning noise and would like to change the diff oil. I see the right fluid is 75w90, but cant seem to find the plug on the diagrams. Can you help me woth the right diagram and plug for my 996.02 2002 model? Shoud I go for a thicker oil, ie 140? the car has 250k kms on it. Thanks George

POST 2Original post

I think your 996.2 tipt is a mercedes box. Then it is same as the 997 Tipt. The fill plug is at 4 o'clock to the axle flange on this picture. The drain is below the differential.

I have a 2000 TIP. Do you mind sharing the cost? Thanks.

POST 4Original post

I've done mine before, didn't take a pic, mine is a 03 C2. My drain plug was easy to find. I know for sure the plug circled in red is the fill/level:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for both those replies. I will find the drain plug. should I go for thicker 140 viscocity? 75w90 with motorkote in it? or just simple 75w90?

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 19281225

There is nothing wrong with 75w90 oil.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i am asking since the car has more than 250k on the road, to further reduce the whinning noise

POST 8Original post

I put in MaxGear Royal Purple 75W-140.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hello I finally used 75w90 with a 70ml of motorkote. whinning reduced heavily after 30km on the road. the old oil was dark and the bottom magnet had quite a lot of debris. probably never changed in the past. I am posting a pic with the drain plug. look at the circle, this is the drain plug

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i would say this is a good discussion: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...nd-matter.html I used motul 75w90 and added 100ml of Motorkote for my differential. Have been using it in diffs in all my cars and boats with no bad results (cant say if it does any good). For the triptonic, an independent porsche dealer did it, dont know what they used, I just paid 350eur.
