Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had my IMS, clutch and a the updated 997 rear main seal replaced last year by a reputable Porsche indy shop. This winter I was doing some suspension work and noticed it was oily between the transmission and bell housing. WTH. In fact, it was actually leaking worse than it was before I had the work done. I have put on less than 1500 miles since it was replaced. I dropped it back at the shop this weekend, they’re going to look at it this week. Could it be something else? Anyone else have this issue? New RMS New updated IMS

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the replies😁 Just heard back from the shop that did the service work. The IMS bearing was leaking due to a seal that rolled during the install. Tech said they do 150+ IMS a year and this was the first one that had this issue. They replaced not just the seal but the whole bearing, changed the oil and kept it on the lift overnight to check for leakage. No charge. Shop was great, got me in right away and took care of the problem. Nice to see a shop back up their work and make it right.

POST 3Original post

looking at your pictures, they didn't use the Porsche recommended tool, RMS should be install at a 13mm depth. that looks like they hammer it flush.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting, I didn’t know that. It’s the updated 997 seal, maybe that’s why? Turns out it wasn’t the RMS after all.
