Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This past summer I had a new top fitted and it worked great. This fall I took driver seat out for some repair. Over winter the car was on a trickle charger. I have put the seat back in, but the top wont go down when I push the button. I do have the parking brake on and the icon lights up on the dash. I can hear a relay clicking in the rear when the button is pushed. Have I forgotten something? Its the seat wiring required to be hooked up for the top to operate? The wiring does seem to be plugged in and seated correctly. Might it help to have the engine running? Ideas?

Does the clam shell open with the dash button..? You need to verify the rear lid is securely latched down, key on, and as you know the parking brake engaged till the light comes on. These are the limiting factors needed to use the dash button to operate the top. You can bypass some or most of those factors by using the door key from the outside lock and holding it all the way over in the open position to open, then holding it in the closed position to close the top. jmo

UPDATE I started the engine and now the windows go down, the top unlatches and opens about 1 inch and stops. Now it wont open or close back up and the windows stay down. New battery on order. Am I making progress?

Yes. Sounds like hydraulic top rams are leaking/out of fluid. If top is just inches away from being closed, If you can push the open button till the latch is down/open, then grab the top and pull it almost closed. Once its almost closed all the way and the latch can reach the hook, push the button to close while holding the top almost closed. And the latch should pull it fully closed tight. Now you can drive the car. Don't try it again till you're ready to fix the rams... .Do not use excessive force on the top, just enough to get closed almost all the way. If the latch misses the hook you need to pull it closed more. jmo

i swapped the battery tender out for the real deal charger and after awhile the top latched just fine. I think this is all battery related so Ill leave it on the charger for awhile and see what happens. when I had the top replaced this summer I had them rebuild the cylinders.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After refilling the reservoir and then needing to refill it again, I looked around the the area below the pump a little more carefully. There was a pile of sound insulation in the bottom which I thought was a little odd so I pulled it out and there it was. A mouse had chewed into one of the hoses and the insulation was its nest. The insulation was soaked with oil. No sign of the mouse🙁 what a complete PIA
