Funny you should mention a PCM problem today - my Cayman is currently in OPC Swindon to investigate an excessive battery drain, just heared that the problem is related to the PCM and that a driver has been dispatched to Reading to pick up awhole new PCM unit - More of that later.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have had my Cayman S 2 weeks now...done 300 miles. I originally tuned in the FM stations but now they dont work..there is no reception. When I scan for FM channels...the tuner just runs round the range and picks nowt up. I dont have a PCM manual as the dealer forgot to put it in (he has ordered one for me) so not sure if there is anything I can check for. I suspect it is goosed but do I need a whole PCM unit? Cheers Matt Edited by - m4ttc on 04/06/2006 10:59:55 AM

POST 2Original post

Hi Matt, Could just be a bad ariel connection. I'm not sure, but I would have thought that within the PCM there will be a replacable tuner modual (at least that is the case with BMW SAt/Nav equipped cars). However ...................................................................... Funny you should mention a PCM problem today - my Cayman is currently in OPC Swindon to investigate an excessive battery drain, just heared that the problem is related to the PCM and that a driver has been dispatched to Reading to pick up awhole new PCM unit - More of that later. POST 3Original post

Just to update on this problem <div class="postcolor" id="post-102566">Well OPC Chester has diagnosed a faulty aerial (well snapped in the 'A' Pillar??) The result is that the car needs 1 A new Windscreen and seal 2 A Booster box Pi$$ed off to say the least as the car has got to go in for 2 days. I wouldnt mind, I hardly ever use the FM stations. Will this be affecting the TMC performance?</div>

POST 4Original post

m4ttc, Not good news then, sorry to hear that. I think it could affect the TMC coverage. TMC is transmitted to one of the two FM tuners in the PCM and if I recall correctly it is transmitted in the UK via the Classic FM station. I guess you can check this by selecting TMC function and 'List all' to display all the reported UK traffic problems ( listed in order - nearest to furthest from your current location) if none are displayed at all then the TMC information is not being received. If anyare displayed, check that they are recent or current because you may only be getting patchyreception. Hope its sorted soon, good luck. Submariner
