Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

What specifically does this procedure " reset/fix " ?
Leading evidence: 'Reset /fix "' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Reset /fix "' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Basically, you're just using air inside the cabin that is circulated over the heater core.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 2001 C4 996 thats not throwing warm air when heat is turned on. Car has 110k and wondering if it's a bad thermostat or even heater core? Is this an issue with these cars by chance? Any thoughts?
You may have lost enough foam off the blend doors to cause this . When most/all the foam is gone you are trying to overcome too much cold outside air . You will get heat eventually but it will be barely warm . This assumes everything else checks out with coolant system .
Do this...
1. Turn COLD AC off (snow indicator turns off)
2. Turn on RECIRCULATE (circle arrow icon)
3. Turn thermostat to "HI" - maximum heat
4. Turn blower speed to low until car is warmed up, then try full air flow

BOOOooOOmmm chicka BOooom! I love it when a plan works out!
What this means is you have the advanced stage of blend door syndrome and this is your work around to get heat in the car.
Sounds like this is a common problem and almost 100% failure rate in the Boxster/996 & 997 over time. Just watched a few YouTube videos on it and seems easy enough to fix. Thanks for the help everyone!
Basically, it shuts off the AC compressor to prevent the cooling of fresh air, but it also tells the blower to shut off external fresh air. Basically, you're just using air inside the cabin that is circulated over the heater core. If you use this procedure on longer trips, it's always a good idea to open the window periodically to allow fresh air inside or once the engine is hot, then you can turn off recirculate and it should continue to be warm, but you'll still be fighting cold fresh air. The most important part is turn off the cold AC (snowflake indicator). When using this procedure, the only other downside that I can think of is the lack of dehumidification. Other than that, it works well IMHO.
