The fuse on my V1 detector lighter adapter keeps blowing up when I connect it to the outlet by the passenger footwell. Any thoughts?
Take it in to the dealer Monday morning.
Doing that. Man, I hope this isn't the start of an electrical nightmare.
Do you want me to move this to the Cayman Complaints Forum?
If it does turn out to be a nightmare, then rest assured that Porsche will make good on a new electrical system for your car.
I thought about posting it there, but thought it would get better exposure here.
Good to know. Makes me feel a little better until Monday. Thanks.
Until Monday I'd call Valentine and ask for suggestions. Have you tried it in other outlets, in other cars? Could be the V1.
Have you tried it in another car…[/quote]

The V1 worked fine with the cig lighter adapter in my previous car. For the last 3 years I had it hardwired, no issues. A year ago, I used it with the adapter in a rental car, no issues.
I burnt out 2 fusesand don't have any more.
May be I will buy more tomorrow and test the other outlets.
I guess I will find out on Monday. If the output is 12V as it is supposed to be, I guess its a V1 issue, but I am inclined to believe otherwise. I hope I am wrong.
70 watts max is what the manual says. A blown fuse usually indicates a short. So, it could be several things - the connector, the V1 circuit, some kind of grounding condition (probably in the V1).
I assume you don't have the same trouble in a different car. You might try the car compressor and see if that blows a fuse.
psycho,
I've moved this to the complaints forum because it is a problem, potentially, with the Cayman. Whenever people look at the active topics it shows up and it will still get exposure here as well, I can't have everything in the 'Chat' forum or there would be no need for the others. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif
Try using it in the cigar lighter socket, rather than the power outlets. I blew the power outlet fuse by mistakenly connecting the tyre pump to it, rather than the cigar lighter...
Update:
Apparently the adapter I have from V1 is outdated (more than 3 years old). I have to get the new adapter which the dealer showed me and he tested it and there were no issues.
So, its all good.
I just installed my V1 today. It only took about an hour to run the cords for the unit and the concealed diplay on the steering column. My question is it OK to leave the cord in the passenger side outlet and just turn the unit off when the car is parked or will it still pull from the battery? I would like to just leave the unit plugged in and us the on off switch. I was thinking about hardwiring it but decided to first just run it through the 12v socket.
