Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I jsut figure its those 550 genes they used when making this model.

Leading evidence: 'Use when making this model' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'plastic cover panel underneath the car' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use when making this model' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I might add that I thought I had a squeak from behind the dash and it turns out it was the plastic cover panel underneath the car that was resonating up into the cockpit and sounding as if it was behind the dash.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

just recently noticed a squeeking noise coming from the rear hatch area. still have not figured out what it is, does anyone else hear sqeeking or know what it might be. it almost sounds like rubber against rubber. Thanx Matt

POST 2Original post

A search on rear noise yielded this info; http://www.planet-9.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=902&FORUM_ID=9&CAT_ID=4&Topic_Title=Rattles&Forum_Title=Cayman+UK HTH. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif

POST 3Original post

As I have said before.......the Cayman isa hatchback, and from time to time it will need a little attention/adjustment to remain quiet. I have used this stuff on all types of rubber seals in many different cars and highly recommend it. It usually will take care of any rubber seal noise. http://www3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/auto_marine_aero/aerospace/node_GS21PY9HKLbe/root_GST1T4S9TCgv/vroot_GSNNJ6NQDKge/gvel_HZM03PJ3D4gl/theme_us_aerospace_3_0/command_AbcPageHandler/output_html

POST 4Original post

thanks for the help guys i, never really even thought of the seal i was looking towards loose fittings and even as desperate as looking to see if it may be the suspension rubbing.

POST 5Original post

I might add that I thought I had a squeak from behind the dash and it turns out it was the plastic cover panel underneath the car that was resonating up into the cockpit and sounding as if it was behind the dash. A quick tighten and all was better. Triple digits speeds may be to blame.

POST 6Original post

Mine was rattle free until taking it for a track day at Road Atlanta. Since then I have noticed a rattle (well, like a rattle, but only a one component sound). I only hear it over fairly bumpy pavement. It is coming from the rear somewhere - can't be sure where, but sounds like the hatch or slightly toward the passengers side in the rear. I bet it'll be tough to track down.

POST 7Original post

Kman, It will be the 2 rubber blocks, one on each side, half way down the boot lid. They come down and contact 2 clear sticky patches just inside hatch opening on the body work. My garage added some different clear patches after I tried to lube them, and the squeek has not returned. However, I also have a rattle that sounds identical to scapocetic, from the rear, over sharp bumps. Sounds like a glass-rattle to me. Jack

POST 8Original post

Try waxing the painted surfaces where they touch. That also helps reduce hatch noises.

POST 9Original post

I have this little rattle too. I haven't went looking for it yet. It is rather intermittant. I jsut figure its those 550 genes they used when making this model. That old age creakin' in. LOL

POST 10Original post

potential rattle source: I haven't tried to fix this yet, but there seems to be an inherent tendency for the struts supporting the rear hatch to rattle. Try opening the rear hatch and banging on the edges of the hatch with the palm of your hand. You will hear a difficult to locate high frequency rattle. If you hold the joint between the piston and the strut, the rattle completely disappears.

POST 11Original post

If you've never owned a hatchback before, this is an 'inherent' quality across nearly all models. I've owned 5 two-seat hatchback sportscars - all had a squeek or rattle out of the hatch at some point. Typically, its the peg / post that is the culprit. The peg / post is the securing approach that holds the interior panels in place and they are almost always just a snap-in arrangement or some variation. Just remember, 'if it squeeks - put WD40 on it'....you can't go wrong with that motto. Paul

POST 12Original post

Hey guys, I noticed something today that might help this thread... If you move the seat forward, then recline, then move back, the seat back rubs and a makes 'squeaky' noise coming from the back.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
