Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They are, without doubt, the weakest headlamps I have experienced in the last 10 years or so and on dipped beam (which look to be correctly adjusted) I would say that they are safe for 50mph...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Am I alone in this, or are there some others out there who have the standard headlamps and feel, as I do, that they are simply totally inadequate for the job? They are, without doubt, the weakest headlamps I have experienced in the last 10 years or so and on dipped beam (which look to be correctly adjusted) I would say that they are safe for 50mph... 55mph if you're pushing it. And this is on a performance car! I'm simply amazed that the car was signed off that way! James

POST 2Original post

James, I have felt this way about the headlamps of all the cars I've owned over the past ten years, perhaps because I live in a rural area. I don't think it is a Porsche issue but an industry issue. And I'm guessing that most people in non-rural areas never even notice or complain so demand to improve is probably limited.

POST 3Original post

Dipped beam is dreadful. Main beam is acceptable, and probably better than the 330's Dipped, in poor driving conditions, are downright dangerous. Any experience with higher wattage bulbs? Is that a possibility? Jack

POST 4Original post

Guys, I'm glad someones mentioned this as I didnt opt for the BiXenons because on my old TT Xenons were standard and I assumed that on a faster car like a Porsche, the normal Headlights would be good enough. Well one night after going to a movie, the street lighting was off and I drove down the same road I'd been driving down for years and didnt recognise it, took a wrong turn and endedup on the Motorway (freeway!). But seriously, the headlights were so poor I didnt recognise the road! the Headlights were that bad!!! Obviously I am more used to them now and expect to have to drive slower in some areas, but since then I have been looking to see if I can get brighter more powerful headlamps fitted to the car, if anyone does have any ideas, I'd be curious to hear about them. Night driving without Xenons is a mare.

POST 5Original post

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. In the UK there has been a fair bit of positive press in general - not specifically related to Cayman's - about aftermarket upgraded bulbs (not Xenon) and it seems that Osram Silverstar's are quite highly rated (actually, in last week's Autocar there was a small 'This Week's Essential' piece with a price quoted of £15 from www.consumabulbs.com ) and I might give these a go. Does anyone know what I would need to order to repalce the dipped units - are they H6's? I'll provide an update if I get some of these fitted. James
