In any case, a c4 cab auto is probably the least sought after variant, especially with high miles.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have 996 1999 carrera 4 with 170k on the dial. The engine warning Light came on and the car started misfiring. I reset the car and it was gone after a short drive it came back and the misfire started again. had it checked and the garage says the vario chain is of bij 7% which meant taking the engine out 3000 quote. besides the engine the top wont open fully and the interior has seen beter days. what is the best course of action? sell for a small amount or put in the work.

It really depends on whats causing the deviation. In any case, a c4 cab auto is probably the least sought after variant, especially with high miles. So you wont get much out of it, before or after repair. Would you keep it long term should you repair it? Are you willing to spend money for the repairs or for upgrading to something newer? I cant tell for the top or interior, but it sounds like that car needs 5 figures injected into it. Then again, maybe it wont. Hard to know unless you start digging.

POST 3Original post

I'm guessing from the way you have phrased this that you haven't been spending much on this anyway. If true and you start down the road to take the engine out, you may find a lot of things that need to be replaced. And the problem with the top isn't cheap either. All in as Haalex says, you could be looking at >10000 Euros.
