Anyhow following the advice given I used several strips of very sticky double sided number plate tape that I had in the garage and stuck it back on the backing piece - I guess the heating won‘t work as well now with a small gap, but as my car is garaged and won‘t be getting much winter use I doubt I’ll be needing the heat function anyway.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, I think this might be a new one! The glass on my drivers door mirror is loose and the faster you go the more it wobbles around, getting quite blurry at "motorway speed”. Outer housing is solid as a rock and the electric operation is fine in all planes, so it seems to be whatever the glass is stuck too. Obviously I’m rather nervous about trying to wrestle the glass out as I don’t want to break it! Anyone had this and any suggestions very much appreciated as it’s pretty annoying! Many thanks Chris

POST 2Original post

Hi Chris, Been there, done that, lol You shouldnt break anything prizing it out. Put the mirror by using the internal switch, to give you a big gap at the edge. Prize it out gently, (i used a wooden thin spatula) to encourage the glass and plastic heated piece it sits on, out. Try and catch/hold it, but the wires for the heated back will keep it from falling out. Detach the wires (remembering what goes where for re-attaching). Gently remove the glass from the plastic. Clean and dry both sides to be re-attached. Use a double sided tape (or padded double sided tape) to stick back together, Or, a glue that will expand and retract (unlike super glue) with the hot and cold. Clip with pegs to help it stick for a good amount of time and replace. Not too hard a job. Hope it all makes sense Ta Mark

POST 3Original post

Yeap happened to me last year. Once cleaned I used a clear mastic to put mine back in place. Wedge the mirror with wooden clothes pegs back into position. leave overnight before removing pegs.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the prompt and helpful responses guys. I had a few minutes this morning to have a look at the mirror. I duly angled it in and went to try to move the outside edge and the glass literally came straight off in my hand (luckily) - the adhesive bonding it to the backing piece had failed completely - which I guess was why I noticed it getting progressively worse on my journey back home yesterday - I was incredibly lucky that it didn’t just fall off into the road - it must have been minutes (or a big bump) away from doing just that! I’ve yet to drive it to prove that it’s worked, but 99% sure it will have done the trick, thanks again! Chris

POST 5Original post

Heating should be fine? The element in mine is on the glass and the pad adheres to it. I've found that the red 3M double sided (with a thin foam strip?) works best for me.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks - that was indeed the tape I used!
