Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace with a double row' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check engine numbers, not chassis numbers' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

My 996 C4 is year 2000 and looking at the chassis number I think I have the single row ims bearing, question is can it be replaced with the dual row bearing, straight swap?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Brethren,
My 996 C4 is year 2000 and looking at the chassis number I think I have the single row ims bearing, question is can it be replaced with the dual row bearing, straight swap?
All 2000 cars have a dual row, the change, which happened at the engine number given above, is in the 2001 model year.
You have to check engine numbers, not chassis numbers.

Reason I asked, mine had the dual row and when Hartech stripped the engine they said there was light signs of scoring starting to appear, but for 170k it was better than expected. So I just wondered what coating was on the pistons.
I spent 20 years with German brands and you often get anomalies, I’ve always assumed it was due to part supply at point of assembly, ie this car / bike should have this part fitted but it hasn’t ?
At dealer level you’re a mushroom, you tell them everything they want to know, very rarely the other way round !
Be interesting to see how much piston coating is intact at 170k, I’d imagine Hartech would tell the difference visually Maybe the pistons were manufactured by someone else and there’s visual cues ..
Unlike the IMSB this is not documented in the parts catalogue. In fact, it does not even show any up issues in part number for pistons. Must be in a TB.
