Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Check condition of exhaust system bolts and clamps to replace/update/upgrade as required.

Replace all "hard to reach" and Major Service related parts
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

(I have done some searching but can't find a thorough updated parts list....please steer me in the right direction if someone has already started one on this forum)
There's no substitute for a documented thorough engine-out Major Service...and with 996 prices on the rise and the vehicles now getting beyond 20 years old, it may be a worthwhile service to have documented for your 996.
I would like to create a list for both 996.1 (3.4) and 996.2 (3.6) and focus on specific hard-to-reach parts that should be replaced while in there.
Some examples of parts may be: Hoses, Clamps, Seals, and major replacement items that are just easier to do when the engine is out.
The Plan:
Remove Engine and Transmission
Replace all "hard to reach" and Major Service related parts
Clean/Detail engine bay and underside of vehicle before re-installation
If you would like to share, please reply with your recommendation that includes a description of the part, if it is related to a 3.4 or 3.6 or both, and if possible, a part number. I will create and update a comprehensive list in this original post.
^^^^ That. Low temp thermostat (LN), chromoly oil pump hex drive key (LN), oil pressure relief valve spring update kit (LN), spin-on filter adapter (LN). Consider adding an X51 type oil pan baffle. Rauch and Spiegel coolant hose to oil separator connector. Clean throttle body and new gasket (

). Fuel filter on 3.4 (
996-110-253-01
). Check condition of exhaust system bolts and clamps to replace/update/upgrade as required. Mobil 1 75w90 gearbox fluid. Oil cooler seals

. Check connections and corrosion on electrical ground points. Replace power steering fluid. Fresh charge on a/c.
Did anyone ever come up a excel list?? I feel like this should be a sticky and parts added like the 997.1 cooler, GT3 brake ducts, etc for the 996 that can be updated/upgraded
