Hello Everyone. I’m still trying to fix my ‘new to me’ poorly 996.1 C4 tip. It selects Reverse, 1st and 2nd but no 3-5 gears whether in Auto or manual mode. I have tried a transmission fluid change and filter change without success. I occasionally get D and 4 flashing, but currently there are no dash warning lights illuminated. When I bought the car a very cheap code reader came up with ‘P0733 Gear 3 incorrect ratio’ and ‘P0734 Gear 4 incorrect ratio’. Any suggestions as to what to look at next? A few people have suggested the Multi Function Switch on the side of the transmission, but some brief googling involving those codes suggests it could be a solenoid or something within the block above the transmission sump. I’m ready buy parts but want to buy the right parts or at least attempt to. Any suggestions on what to look at?

The incorrect ratio codes usually point more towards the gearbox seeing slip or failed engagement rather than just not knowing what gear has been selected. I’d want a proper Porsche-capable scan before changing anything else. It could be valve body/solenoid related, but I’d prove that first. Fluid and filter were sensible first steps, but from here I’d diagnose before throwing parts at it.
