My engine water temps are on the high side (230F aka 110C). Oil temps are okay, but I wouldn't mind them being a bit lower too.
Temps always spike on hot days when my car is idling. Unfortunately, every day is hot here in Texas. It does a bit better when the car is moving — and I confirmed my fans are indeed working.
CSF radiators
Replacing old coolant. Using more water (change the ratio). Vacuum bleed.
WaterWetter
Removing bumperettes and replacing with mesh
At the cost of increased risk in a rear end accident.
Removing front fender liners
At the cost of shorter lifespan of components in that area
GT3 oil cooler
?
Not sure where to obtain that.
3rd radiator
Mine uses the TPC kit which means the 3rd radiator is plumbed to a separate intercooler cooling system. So sadly, my engine can only work with 2 radiators.
Water/meth injection
Would prefer to avoid this, but it is an option.
Any other ideas? I'd like to get as much safety margin as possible.
If the water temp was lower, your oil temp would be too.
I think the first thing I would do is remove the front bumper and clean out the radiators. Good chance they are stuffed with bugs, leaves, cigarette butts, etc.
Hmmm. So you actually have a center radiator but it’s dedicated to the intercooler? I wonder if there is room for a second center radiator? It might require making some brackets and a bit of plumbing. But many shops that support racing are used to mounting various coolers all over the place.
The CSF ones will get you a couple degrees. I went that route to improve cooling and it helped just a bit.
I need more cooling as well. I’m considering some of the same options you listed. This will be a winter time project for me.
You mention that your car has the TPC kit, is this a turbocharged engine?
Let me know what you pick!
Once the bumper is off, I'll take a look and see if two radiators would be possible. If the center radiator weren't just for the intercooler, it might be worth getting the
GT3
center radiator, following this guide:

(ctrl+f for "GT3 Center Radiator Install Instructions")
Don't think it'll be worth it in my case.
Yessir! I've had this car in two configurations:
- 3.4L with the "stock" TPC turbo, spring set to 7psi: This is how I bought the vehicle. The seller didn't know it was turbocharged, and I didn't know either until I drove off the seller's lot. I never did any data recording at that time, so I have no idea what the temps actually were. As you probably know, the temp gauge on the dash is more of a dummy light than an actual gauge. As far as I was concerned, it was running fine.
- 4.1L with Garrett G30-770, 7psi: The dash gauge still says I'm fine, but I'm paying attention to temps pulled over OBDII, unlike before. This is when I saw that the temps are just barely too high for me to not worry.
Of course, turning the boost down is always an option. But I'm not a big fan of that option.
You might consider getting the oil/coolant gauge from 997 Research. It will give you accurate readings as it ties into the CANbus. Of course, that assumes the sensors in your engine are providing the same info in the same way.
I will likely be doing the “smile” vent from the link you included. But it will be the standard sized radiator for now. I’m hoping that the extra breathing will improve cooling as well as add some downforce.
I'm working on a side project right now that'll get me accurate readings on the dash, where it normally displays the song name sent from the head unit
