Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Never mind, I just took a closer look and realized I used a 999.167.042.02 that matches below.

Two struts are used on the 996 Turbo because of the unbelievably heave hydraulic spoiler.

Those are the cars I remember replacing hood/trunk shocks on the last few years.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 2001 996 C2 has one pneumatic strut trying to hold up the engine lid. It looks like the other side has holes that would serve as mounting points for a second strut. When looking to buy a replacement strut, I see they are many times offered in pairs.
What is the standard configuration? Is my car missing a second strut that would have been on there when new?
Thanks.
My C2 also came with just 1 strut.
I added the ball mount on the left so I could have a second strut, but now with my lighter fiberglass/carbon fiber wing, the 1 strut holds it just fine.
On my 993, there are 2 struts for the engine cover..........However, I am now going to try one mechanical Rennline locking strut on the passenger side (easier to access with air box cover/air filter out) and leave the harder to access hydraulic one on the driver's side behind the blower motor...
After 28 years, this is my 4th time to replace and hopefully this will be my last with the RL mechanical one adequately supporting the stock engine cover's weight......
Hi, I bought the bottom left ball end screw for the left strut. The hole for the top strut seems like a different size. I wanted to ask how you solved it on yours. Did you buy a a new hinge, drill a bigger hole or find a part number for the ball screw? I've been scouring the web with no info. Hoping someone on Rennlist can help! This is for my '02 996 C4 Cab.
Thanks
I drilled and tapped the hole M8x1.25.
Then I installed a ball that I already had.
I don’t know what the ball is from, but the ball itself is the same size as the right side from Porsche.
It may be from a BMW 135, Toyota or Honda.
Two struts are the way to go. Just ask my Indi. He got clocked in the back of the head during the PPI of my C4S as it had two
worn out
struts. First thing I did after I bought the car. Did the two in the frunk as well. Not worth getting concussed.
My guess would be Toyota Avalon, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Honda Odyssey, BMW 1 or 3 series, or VW Passat.

So just buy 2 of those and drill and tap the top M8x1.25.
