Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Looking for some expertise. I have a 987 and when the top goes up and comes down, there is a bit of a pop and a hesitation. I have isolated it to part number 31 in the top diagram. This piece seems to spin which it doesn’t seem like it should spin. When it’s in the wrong position it’s catching on one of the operating pieces that slides. Any advice greatly appreciated. I was thinking about a simple fix of some two sided sticky Velcro to hold that piece in its proper place so that it didn’t spin and caused the problem. Happy to provide images and any advice appreciated.

POST 4Original post

Pelican Parts responded, suggested replacing the washer if damaged. What do you think?

POST 5Original post

Don't get discouraged. Life gets in the way and sometimes I go weeks without being here. Lots of users, and like myself. The one with answers my login any day. I think the velcro idea is a good one, even if not exactly correct. Maybe before applying, use a heat gun or hairdryer, sparingly, to flaten the washer against the transmission and clear the lever arm. Fair chance the velcro will hold. What do you think? The washer is basically water protection for the transmission. While you are in there make sure your drains are clear. You'll find them below trans. Please update on progress

POST 8Original post

The plastic washer is supposed to be tucked under the rail. Once done correctly problem solved. Not sure if they popped free in the past or if someone put the assembly together incorrectly in the past…

POST 9Original post

Thank you. That makes sense. Once tucked under the rail, it provides the water shielding and support as intended I think mine are next generation upgrade for 987? Glad it's sorted.

POST 10Original post

A quick hint on getting good answers here - if you refer to a PN in a diagram, include the diagram. A screen-capture of the parts diagram, edited to eliminate the unnecessary will go a long way towards people understanding your question. Just a heads up.. BTW - there is a thread at the top of each tech forum explaining how to ask a technical question for best chance of useful answers. AND - since this is a technical question - not an intro post - this entire thread is being moved from Member Introductions to a 987 tech forum. Hang on.. move in progress..
