Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I can dig out some pics later but given your description I suspect some unwanted resistance has occurred in that wiring and connections so that’s where I would start.
Leading evidence: 'some unwanted resistance has occurred in' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'some unwanted resistance has occurred in' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean connection - might buy you another 18 months' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Have you given them a twist / disconnect & reconnect so they have a clean connection - might buy you another 18 months.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I first got my car it had the MOD.07 Momo steering wheel installed, which I never really liked and so switched back to an OEM wheel.
Where a resistor was added for the MOD.07 the wires were modified to keep the airbag light off, and once the OEM wheel went back on I reinstalled the clockspring and reconnected things as best as what was left would go. This has been fine for 18 odd months, but now the airbag light is coming on. I've tried to reset via an OBD which didn't work. I then stripped it all out and reinstalled it, which then did allow me to switch it off with the OBD, however after an hour of driving its back on.
Attached is the state of the wiring I have, but I have no knowledge of what
should
be there. Multi colour cable on the left is the plug to the back of the clockspring, but this is then narrowed to 2 wires that fit to the red clip at the far right. I'm tempted to just source a new section of wiring that should be between the two plugs. Any advice or knowledge of part numbers that might help?
I can dig out some pics later but given your description I suspect some unwanted resistance has occurred in that wiring and connections so that’s where I would start.
Those red plastic bullet crimp connections are awful and unreliable - I always replace them with a better quality connection whenever I see them
Have you given them a twist / disconnect & reconnect so they have a clean connection - might buy you another 18 months.

Hi Guys
This is actually about a 993, but its basically the same system on the 986/996 so I am asking here. Plus I have a 986 haha.
Does anyone know which pins on the Airbag controller correspond to the two pins on the airbag connector as pictured below.
I want to test continuity of the airbag connector through to the control module.
Would it be 10 & 11 the ignition pill ones?
Many thanks in advance!

Clocksprings and control modules can also fail. On my 993 the supplying dealer jumped to the conclusion it needed a clock spring when it was actually the control module. The porsche centres bosch hammer wouldn't even switch the light out and they got new software sent from Germany. Paid off getting it sorted as I did need it one day
Seems it was exactly this. I took it all apart again on Monday evening. Removed the bullet connectors and rejoined them in better in line crimp connectors.
Reset via OBD and the light stayed out. Just over 100 miles, and number of hours over the last 4 days and its still out. Hopefully thats sorted it. Appreciate the tip
19yr old bmw driver taking a blind bend(the racing line) and hit me head on! Luckily the cars met at an angle so he launched himself off the front end and barrel rolled up the road. I had 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung. Severe bruising as feet were trapped in the pedals!
Their has been a spate of accidents locally with quite a few fatalities and it still affects me how lucky I was!
Unfortunately I thought he got off very lightly. He was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He plead not guilty so I was off to court. At the last minute they bargained to careless driving and he got banned for a year with a £300 fine! Justice system happy because they got a conviction and no room for him in jail anyway. I was disappointed with the result.
The trouble was he was well known locally and this was not his first accident. He had closed the A1 for 4 hours with one of his previous errors! To be honest I don't think he is driving now because he can't afford the
insurance
