Checked the top of the sender unit and that was all dry so have put a replacement NRV in and will see if that helps

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Noticed recently that i'm getting the smell of fuel when the tank is full which goes away after a few miles. online research suggests it could be either the charcoal cannister or a crack in the top of the fuel sender. 2nd hand cannisters are only a few quid on ebay, but is that potentially just delaying another replacement? Wondering whether there is a way to clean or refresh the original cannister or are they effectively single use? Has anyone tried it and been successful?

POST 2Original post

Not sure if you have already tried this. I had the same issue, strong smell of petrol when I had a full tank, but after reading some forums, I decided to start by changing the fuel filler cap and to my surprise it solved the problem.

I did, but didn't solve it for me - its only when filled to the top.

POST 4Original post

OK, worth a try. You've probably done this as well If you take the wheel arch lining out on the side where the fuel filler is, it exposes the cannister and also the tube that goes from the filler cap to the petrol tank. This may help your investigations.

POST 5Original post

Hi, did you manage to solve your petrol smell issue?

Not sure as haven’t filled it up yet. Checked the top of the sender unit and that was all dry so have put a replacement NRV in and will see if that helps
