IMHO, this is caused by exposure to the elements over time.
Leading evidence: 'exposure' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'exposure' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair | power window' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have used these guy's 3 times now, 2 on the P-car and then the Mercedes, excellent service and they used metal pulleys instead of plastic, turn around was short.

There is a Diy fix for this using bicycle cable shield adjusters, if your are ingenious enough and/or frugal enough. But most people just replace the regulator..

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My passenger side window seems to be getting pinched or obstructed by something halfway up. It goes up fine until it gets about half way and then continues up very slowly. A few times its stopped and then gone back down.
Any recommendations on how to go about diagnosing?
Yeah I replaced my window regulator 3 times during the 20+ yrs.
Overall It was much easier than I expected but the realignment was kind of a pain, even though I had marked the glass before removing it.
its been a few years so i cant remember the exact symptoms, seems like i remember it not closing all the way without 'helping' push it up. Also one time it failed on either the front or back and that section didnt close (so it was tilted unless i pushed it up).
I mean realistically there's not much else to the system, your motor is clearly working so if it wont even rollup properly when the door is open (so its not binding on the a/b-pillar or something) then what else could it possibly be?
Also to inspect it and figure out what's going on, you're going to have to get in there anyway to get the interior panel off, the weathershield, etc so you may as well have the part handy to replace it if necessary. It's not very expensive as I recall and you can probably send it back if you dont open it.
Too much resistance. Believe it or not, these cars have anti-pitch protection. I believe these regulators have about 3-4 common modes of failure:
1. cable stretching or breakage
2. broken rotary
3. malfunctioning motor
4. loss of lubrication
Your symptoms are classic to the resistance problem. IMHO, this is caused by exposure to the elements over time. Heat along with the moisture causes the much needed grease to dry and this in turn causes resistance in the cabling.
Replace the regulator. Not fun, but has to be done.
I'm not sure I place much faith in any particular brand for this one, the OEM unit failed in the first place and I haven't owned a car since the 80's that required me to fix the window regulator! lol (for the record I used Dorman the last time in 2016)
Good luck FlattestSix, let us know what you find out!

I did mine around 2015 (Porsche dealer actually broke it...). The part cost me $120 - it wasn't the "Porsche" branded part, but I don't remember which brand I used - maybe URO maybe Lemforder... All I know is that Porsche offered to fix it for "cost", which was going to be $120... I said no thanks and did it myself. It's still going strong!
The common problem with the window regulators is it gets slack in the cable ( from a broken plastic cable end shield), this causes it not to do the required 1/2" drop when opening the door, it can cause the cable to completely jump the pulleys and make horribly noise and function..
There is a Diy fix for this using bicycle cable shield adjusters, if your are ingenious enough and/or frugal enough. But most people just replace the regulator..
The problem with slow window is commonly the rubber trim strips that slide on the inner and outer of the window. They actually have a "felt" material on the side that slides on the glass, and when the felt wears out and the rubber is rubbing the glass, the rubber will cause too much resistance and even fold under as it is raised...This causes the window to raise slowly or even stop...
The fix for this is new window rubber strips...( felt) ..
Anyone have a part # for this?
https://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-...section=804-10
Is it #s 4&5 in the diagram above?
If so, seem pricey. Any way to re-felt? Or use a dry lube on the strips (window facing side)?
Thanks all, so it sounds like best path is to replace the window regulator and perhaps while I'm in there, replace the felt strip as well.
Seems from all the videos on YouTube that this is a pretty DYI-able project. Does anyone have a link to the felt trim replacement?
