Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had issues with my rear ABS, my Indy replaced both rear reluctor rings whilst the car was in for other work. It was an inexpensive fix and solved the problem.

Thankfully, my local independent garage — the one I use for my non-Porsche cars and trust completely — was happy to fit a new reluctor ring as long as I supplied the part.

Suggestion
Never worked on a Porsche reluctor ring, though in the past if the ring is corroded, depending on type, there is just a chance that cleaning the rust out between the castellations might help the sensor to identify the gaps more accurately...?

Suggestion
I suspect in many cases where the repair is being carried out by a garage, then the time taken to mess around with a corroded ring in the hope of affecting a repair may be none to sensible.....

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

My 1999 Porsche 996 C4 has now gone through its third ABS/speed sensor on three different wheels. It’s a PITA job but definitely doable yourself — just be aware that the sensors usually won’t simply pull out. In most cases you’ll end up having to drill them out.
The last one I changed was about a month ago. After removing everything and cleaning it up, I hoped the new sensor would just slide in, but I noticed the reluctor ring was spinning. As this was a rear wheel, the usual fix is a new driveshaft, which is around £1,200 new. Second-hand shafts are rare, and you also have to make sure you get the correct number of teeth on the reluctor ring and the correct shaft size — a complete minefield.
If you look on the forums, people do say it’s possible to replace just the reluctor ring. However, none of the Porsche indies I spoke to wanted to do the job and would only replace the complete shaft.
Thankfully, my local independent garage — the one I use for my non-Porsche cars and trust completely — was happy to fit a new reluctor ring as long as I supplied the part. They even suggested buying two rings just in case there were any issues during fitting. In the end, it went on without any problems, all the codes reset properly, and the car now drives perfectly with no Christmas tree lights on the dash.
Total cost: £174 including VAT.

I suspect in many cases where the repair is being carried out by a garage, then the time taken to mess around with a corroded ring in the hope of affecting a repair may be none to sensible..... But if doing the work one`s self as I ever did in the past, perhaps worth a go...?
