Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

and no i don't want to just replace the entire cable or use an expensive FFP cable ends.
Leading evidence: 'Replace entire cable or' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Suggestion
It's kind of a moot point because the two cables in a manual cable set are different lengths.

So you have no choice but to buy new cables, or use the FF cable end upgrade kit.

So an option would be to use heat to break the bond.

ok this is silly...i tried using sandpaper/plier to keep the steel rod (green circle) from rotating while i tried to unscrew the end connector piece (red circle) but no go.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
16 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

what is a smarter way of tackling this? and no i don't want to just replace the entire cable or use an expensive FFP cable ends.
I may be wrong, and as ever, Im happy to be corrected, but I
think
youll find that section is the crimp (that just happens to be hexagonal) that secures the cable end to the cable itself.
Its not meant to, and wont turn to enable the separation of the two parts.
So you have no choice but to buy new cables, or use the FF cable end upgrade kit.
My guess would be heat. Likely some type of loctite was used at the factory/manufacturer to attach the end to the shaft. So an option would be to use heat to break the bond. Just a guess - do so at your own risk...

Like I said, and I hope with good grace, I may be wrong, and I'm happy to be corrected, I was wrong, and I've been corrected. Guess what, it's how we learn stuff
Because every day is a school day.
Do please let us know how you get the ends off without damaging the cable section.
As can be seen in the parts diagram the end of the Tiptronic shift cable is threaded. There is a locknut and then the cable end you bought from Pelican.
Same at the shifter end, not at the gearbox end, however, which is the end the OP is addressing...
I see no counter nut on OP's foto, I bet he bought the tiptronic cable ends that don't fit his manual cables, going by above PET diagrams.
I think it safe to say that the likes of Function First wouldn't have invested much time and energy or indeed have chosen to work within the confines/limitations of the standard manual transmission cable ends, if the standard items could simply have been unscrewed and an improved version screwed in their place ...
Maybe, just maybe that's why the FF items are "expensive" (the OP's words, not mine)
If the tip really is exactly the same at the shifter end, i.e. if it connects to the housing etc. the same way, it makes me wonder if there is anything to be gained by fitting two tip cables and having adjustability at the gearbox end ala the numeric cables.
It would be a great additional adjustment point, but thats assuming the lengths of both the inners and outers of the cables are the same between the manual and Tip transmissions Dave, and that the locations of the shift levers on the outside of the transmission itself are in the same locations, and their throws are the same. Both of which Im doubtful of. Though I must admit Ive never looked at the underside of a Tip equipped car.
