I just started my first oil change. Did a bunch of research first, ended up getting a Mann HU7195X filter, which multiple sites say is correct for my car.
I drained the oil, swapped the filter, and put things back together, but have not added oil yet.
As usual, I discard my old filter in the new filter's box to keep the trash a bit cleaner. I went to do that, and noticed that the old filter is actually too tall for the box. Looking closer, I see this
Again, from my research, this should be a Mahle OX366D. There is no D here.
More research. Mahle OX366 was replaced with Mann HU7026Z... which is also taller... for the 718. WTF?
More research. Mann HU7026Z is also claimed to be a fitment for the 987.2 Caymans.
So my questions are now:
Do I have the right filter?
Do I have the right filter housing?
Did the dealer force a 718 taller filter into the 987 housing?
What is my next steps?
I haven't put in oil yet, so currently its just a swap of the filter.
I purchased the wrong part. I need to get a filter that is 141mm tall. Even though some sites claim the 113mm tall Mann HU7195X fits our cars, I don't believe it does. Its shorter than OEM of 140.5mm.
Key thing is to double check. I think the filter has to be really pushed in there to seat it. I responded to this on an earlier thread; YMMV.

Either way, it admittedly does get confusing. I've found that the 981 and 987.2 filters are the same. Although I originally bought a 991 filter for my 981 Outlaw, only with trial and experience did I realize that it still required the 981 filter. As my 981 was up in the air, I hopped on my Vespa to my local Porsche dealer and paid for the correct one -- which was priced similarly to if I had bought it online.
Let us know how what definitely worked / didn't work for you.
I've been using the K&N PS-7011 (110 mm) on my

, 3.4. Seems to work just fine.
