Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suspected cause

If it's exact 1/6 of the engine RPM reading, it's likely a conversion/display problem, not a mechanical fault.

Suggestion

I’d use the dash RPM as the reference, then check the Tip input/output RPM against road speed and gear ratio before assuming slip.

Leading evidence: 'conversion/display problem, not a mechanical fault' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'conversion/display problem, not a mechanical fault' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check tip input/output rpm against road speed and gear ratio' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

I wonder if there's some Porsche that uses a scaled number and PIWIS is just confused on what car it's talking to.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm STILL chasing down a limp mode problem with my 2001 996 C4. I want to be able to monitor engine RPM, transmission input RPM, transmission output RPM, wheel speed, etc. All or some of the RPM readings I'm seeing seem to be strange. For the engine RPM, I obviously have a gauge for comparison and was seeing the PIWIS data for engine RPM as 1/6 of the RPM gauge. My Autel MK900BT showed the correct reading, but there isn't a published way to get the data off of that device for more detailed analysis and it doesn't have the wheel data in the Transmission section. If it's some sort of quirk, I can fix it in Excel. But, I'm not sure whether the trans RPM values are also scaled somehow. Input appears to be. Not sure about output. I'm trying to figure out what's slipping and where. Has anyone seen anything like this? If so, what did you do?

POST 4Original post

PIWIS may be reading the right signal but applying the wrong scaling or control-unit profile. I’d use the dash RPM as the reference, then check the Tip input/output RPM against road speed and gear ratio before assuming slip.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
