Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For those who might have been following the PDK distance sensor project, one of the things we really wanted to find out was if the sensor replacement could be done with the transmission remaining in the car. As it turns out it can, and with little difficulty. Certainly no more difficult than the replacement in the 987/ 981 . Big thanks to @stjoh for providing the images and information. He had picked up a 997 from someone on ******** who had a workshop chasing a seemingly undiagnosable PDK problem for a long time, had eventually given up, and moved the car on for cheap. Ironically the problem was diagnosed by @stjoh in quick time as a speed sensor channel 2 failing with increasing temperature. We were pretty stunned the workshop hadn't been able to diagnose the issue, as the indications seemed pretty obvious. As part of his fix, we wanted to investigate if the fix could be done with the transmission remaining in the car, as this will require far less work and risk. No coolant drain or anything major. Just removal of a few components so the rear of the transmission can be lowered and get access to the rear casing. @stjoh estimates no more than a days work.

POST 2Original post

Although I'm a 6MT guy, this is incredible. Nice work, @ jjrichar and @stjoh -- This is pretty wild.

POST 3Original post

Hi All, 1. aplogies if that is not the right place, but I am new to the forum... 2. a bit of history upfront: My 981 (model year 2013) with PDK had errors shifting R, 1,3,5,7 and the errors then (dont recall) led us to replace the gear shift position sensor with the one from T-design (thx again to vlad who has been very helpful with information throughout and AFTER the whole process!!) After the gear shift position sensor and the majority of the EDS valves (just to be sure) were changed, the car was able to go through successful re-cal of the the PDK /clutch, while that was already a "try x-times" issue (just for clarification, dont know if that is relevant). After I had it back for about 2 days, then 1 time the error showed when driving home and parking the car on the driveway by shifting into reverse, but was then aparently gone (or I didnt drive far enough..) After about 1 month irregulary/rarely driving it, the same thing happened again. - R,1,3,5,7 can't engage (display shows the same gearbox error as before) However, when the car cools down again, you can drive and shift OK. This even when I am on a highway, where it happened and I couldnt shift gears: I parked and then after a few minutes, the car would shift again for a while until it got to hot/warm. We then decided that we would replace the valve body completely (as we assumed that that would be the only thing left with respect to pressure situations in the PDK ..) This however didnt help. The car on a PIWIS 2 is now stuck with : P1773 (as in the above post as well..) P1870 (had been coming up in other posts.) However it seems that I am the only one with this combination of errors and I wonder if anyone has some insights, as my garage comes to the point where they dont know anymore (they have been super helpful though and know their stuff/the exchanged the gear shift sensor..) So again, if anyone has a hint on where or what to check => GREATLY appreciated!! FYI: there is no visible leakage on the PDK anywhere and per my garage, the chamber fluids dont mix up as per garage.. one Main question that concerns me, is if anyone had any idea if that software update in / from this post, might actually do the job ? TNX much for any insights and ideas!!!

POST 4Original post

HI All, a bit of follow up information: have spend half a day with the garage last week and after reading jjrichars comment on how upgrading software might potentially help. We did this, hoping it would remove the errors as the porsche service bulletin names an error close to ours (P1764 vs. our P1773) After updating all software DME and TCU, we tried the calbiration again, however without luck/success. The erros still remain: P1773 (Gear Valve 1 on minus or multiplex error) and P1870 (Data Record for Shift Rod calibration invalid) for completeness: we have tried numerous times and P1765 and P1764 did appear as well after what we beleive failed calibration (we dont think that is an issue, but again who are we to judge....) The discovery - if you want to call it that way - was the we realized, that the calibration procedure fails instantly when the car runs (as it is supposed to during calibration ) "idle", BUT when you apply throttle to the system, it does actually start the calibration, just to fail then again with the above errors. This leads us to believe that there is a "pressure issue" on the valve body/clutch side of the PDK. As per our assesment it can be either of the two: 1. actually to low pressure, which is measured correctly => System will recognize incorrect (too little) oil pressure and abort, while there is acutally too little pressure in the system => the Pump might have a problem, as we could rule out leaks already (at least there are no visible ones) 2. actually correct pressure, which is measured incorrectly => System will recognize incorrect (too little) oil pressure and abort, while there is acutally correct pressurein the system => the sensors might be the problem. HOWEVER due to the lack of a comparable car at the garage and no information on it, we dont know if the pressure which is measure in the first place is somewhat accurate at all. We have measured the following at IDLE: Pressure Sensor 1 (clutch 1) with 1.432 bar (both runs) Pressure Sensor 2 (clutch 2) with 1.432 bar (2nd run) and 1.456 bar (1st run) If you increase the throttle, at the beginning of the calibration, it does not abort immediately and throttle has been up to 3.500 rpm in the calibration attempt (will see that i upload the video but its to big presently and for whatever reason there is no audio unfortunately..) We simply dont know what values should be correct, but we "think" that the pressure is the issue for the errors in the first place. As a result, we are desperately looking for someone that may have the correct values from the start. Anyone that could help us find the correct values (or has measured them during his calibration) would be greatly appeciated. Thnx much in advance!!!
