I just bought a '99 996 and want to replace the battery with something lighter that also has enough CCA's (+/- 630).

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi all. I'm new to the Porsche world. I just bought a '99 996 and want to replace the battery with something lighter that also has enough CCA's (+/- 630). Does anyone have positive experience with going to a small Odyssey or even switching to lithium ion?

POST 2Original post

I hadn't heard of Odyssey before this so I checked and I went through the battery selector on the website and came back with no recommendations for a 99 911. But since it is lead acid, it's not likely to weigh less. Li-ion would weigh a lot less.

POST 3Original post

The Anti-Gravity with remote jump start are the best. Save weight, and prevent the dreaded frunk lock-out issue so many have faced before. Check threads on emergency frunk release.

99s have cable frunk/engine lid release

POST 5Original post

This is my take on a 996 battery... As long as you're not regularly driving/starting in <0F... an H6 AGM is more than sufficient. The H6 AGM fits in perfectly, is plenty big' enough, its lighter, smaller, similar power/capacity to many wet cel H7, maybe slightly less than a agm h7. I've got 2 Walmart H6 AGM, in my 996.1 and my 996.2. I've used Odyssey and yellow tops, along with a slew of other batteries over the years in many different cars and climates. My $185 Walmart AGM H6 have made in Germany stickers on them and preform great. My 996 turns over(starts) fast like their on steroids, even on this mornings freezing cold 58 start. Had a wet cell H7 that came with the car before my Walmart AGM H6. H6 AGM was almost 10 lbs lighter iirr. jmo

Yes, it does. Some people have trouble finding it when they really need it. Still, a dead battery in the parking lot away from home is still a potential hassle.

Agree. I dont believe the power requirements for a 996 are all that demanding. I have the smaller H6 from Interstate (Costco), installed in 2017.
