Suggestion

It doesn't make sense they'd do that and what would be the purpose of allowing one VIN to be changed whilst the other is fixed, if they'd have to match for the unit to work......wouldn't you then just have one fixed one instead??!!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Has anyone purchased a PCM 3 from eBay? I asked a dealer if you can program a PCM 3 that was purchased from ebay and came from the same model car and the response was "The PCM has VIN A and VIN B that must match. Vin A can be programmed, ViN B cannot." Is this true about having 2 vin numbers on the radio? Does this mean that once a radio is made for a specific vin it can never be used in another porsche even if the dealer codes vin a? Thanks, John

POST 2Original post

I don't believe that, I mean what would be the benefit for Porsche except a load more work and cost for programming. It doesn't make sense they'd do that and what would be the purpose of allowing one VIN to be changed whilst the other is fixed, if they'd have to match for the unit to work......wouldn't you then just have one fixed one instead??!! I'd get a second opinion from somewhere else.

POST 3Original post

You can move PCM 's from car to car but in order for it to have full functionality, there must be an activation code associated with the VIN of tha car that you install the PCM in to. The activation can only be done by PIWIS and the only way to get the code is to pay for the option. Trust me, I have been down this exact road.

POST 4Original post

Activation code makes sense. There's got to be a way to hack it, and I wonder how much a dealer will charge for the code/option.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the replies. I will find out more details from Porsche and let everyone know how it goes.

POST 6Original post

I'll check here with the service guys, as I'm interested. I'm close with the service supervisor and so will see what they would do if they replace one or if they are asked to retrofit one.

POST 7Original post

That would be great. Thanks for checking. I'm interested to see what they say.
