Just giving help to people who want the option to change their stock system in their 997 (Could be useful for the 997.2 crowd, but more for the 997.1 crowd)
Just need some type of white noise on long trips other than the music from my flat six.
Anyways, like mentioned on the title, I have a cdr-24 with upgraded sound package. i hate loading cd's and just wanted to use my iPod.
Well I chose the PIONEER avic-x920bt which plays ipod (microSD, cd, dvd), bluetooth, pandora, and has Navi. More than I can ask for for an ipod player.
But anyways.......the DOUBLE DIN installation kit was from EURO MOTORSPEED (
Euro Motorspeed
)
They have kits for just the CDR-24/CDR-30

My radio guy is Bo from Audiomobile from Oakland, CA. Got the PIONEER head unit from his shop and he took his time and did the install in a day. He made everything look as stock as possible.
He installed the bluetooth mic in between the plastic of the map lights and the rear view mirror. He took out the middle speaker on the dash and ran the GPS there for navigation.
Here is a quick vid of the finished product.

Looks great. Thanks for posting the video.
Thanx.
Just wanted to help anyone who was going this route.
Just trying to get as much info on my car and to share the info on mine!!!!
Thanks for this posting. After visiting my UK dealer to find out how much a nav unit would be to retrofit in my 997.1 (I have the pcm2.1, but no nav unit) I was told that Porsche are not offering these for retrofit anymore - unbelievable!!!
I went round a similarly frustrating audio mulberry bush with my Cayman (cdr-24) - so this was the last straw. Avic F920BT is being fitted tomorrow!!
I dont know why it has taken me so long to get here really. I guess I prefer to see a car with original equipment - but when that original equipment is sh*te and you have to live with it day in day out - switching to an aftermarket system actually makes so much sense.
Why on earth Porsche havent cottoned on to this beggars belief. They would have a queue at the dealership if they offered an upgraded, iphone compatible system for retrofit...
I guess if you have crawled up your large intestine and entered the small intestine, the proximity of the intestinal folds makes it very hard to hear anything - let alone the voice of the customer...!!!
Jbigelow,
Thank you for posting all of this information - it really helped!
Question: did you only upgrade your head unit, or did you go for the upgraded speakers, amp, etc.
thanks!
