You can also look for aftermarket kits (of which there are many, of varying quality), but you would also have to change both sides to match.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Pelican (and forum members) Well, tonight I ended up running over a large rock or something (didn't see it) and it gouged out a piece of my driver's side rocker panel. I've searched every porsche parts site I can find it seems that the only OEM porsche rocker panels are NOT compatible with the turbo/4s body styles... just the regular Carrera's. Now, maybe I'm getting the part name wrong, so I've attached a photo of a similar 996 turbo (just from Google Images... it's too dark to take a picture of my car at the moment), and I circled the area that's damaged (on mine) in Photoshop. So - a few questions... 1. Is that the rocker panel (see attached pic)? 2. Is there a place I can get one for a 2002 Turbo? 3. Is the rocker panel color universal? Thanks! -Chris ---------------------

POST 2Original post

Chris, I'll venture in here. 1) The rocker panel usually refers to the long body strip that fits below the doors, as you suggest. However, on these Porsches, I have been seeing that there are aerodynamic packages that are add-ons to the body, going under (or over) the rockers, and they call these "side skirts". 2) There is a place that you can get replacement aero kits, including the side skirts. The one place I checked on in the past is in LA, and I think they only dismantle Porsches. Los Angeles Dismantler for Porsche 911, Boxster & Cayman (No affiliation.) You can also look for aftermarket kits (of which there are many, of varying quality), but you would also have to change both sides to match. Check eBay. 3) I don't think there is a universal color for the side skirts; they are painted whatever is the basic color of your car. However, if you stipulate "Porsche silver", or whatever color, to a dismantler, they can try to find a skirt from an original silver car.

Thanks baloo, That's very helpful - good call on checking with dismantlers. I'd hate to resort to the Stealership... I'll continue searching -Chris

POST 4Original post

I'm not sure but I think the piece is welded in place. The bodies are galvanized and best to keep the parts that way.
