Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have enquired about a 996(1999) recent MOT report highlighted corrision on both sills and rear chassis. Seller has taken to garage and supplied pics see below. Is this general age related and ok, easy repair or a can of worms, thoughts from people would be great, I’m a clean freak so always looks bad too me!!

POST 2Original post

Blimey, my 99 looks nothing like that underneath and i'd be very cautious and tread carefully...i take it's kept outside and driven in all weather...?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I believe so…..I questioned as was pointed out on MOT and they offered to take to garage and get photos so hasn’t hid anything, was advised surface and age related

POST 5Original post

Quotes source post: 2798940

That will take an awful lot of £££s to sort out to your satisfaction.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes that was my thoughts and can’t unsee it now!! Apart from the visual is there any major cause for concern tho ?

POST 7Original post

You won't know until you see it in the flesh and treat it first. Then you'll be able to see the depth of the rust and i assume from those pics there'll be more you can't see.

POST 8Original post

Mine car is also 1999 and looks nothing like that, it may be surface rust but it is going to need addressing right away , if the sill ends look dodgy it's most likely going to be worse than it looks under the plastic end guards , Beware have a very good poke around it can soon turn into big money to sort it out.

POST 9Original post

I have a 2000 car and as above, doesn't look like that, even as a daily driver that has been out all winter. There are quite a few cars on the market, so unless it has something you really really want, isn't available elsewhere, or is cheap enough to get it treated, i'd look elsewhere

POST 10Original post

That's just it though.... there are very few early 996's available if one looks carefully ... at least one's that don't need loadsa money chucking at them.

POST 11Original post

my 2002 996 is going in for a thorough chassis clean and waxoyl next month to avoid this scenario. Mine does look fairly solid and clean, but I am already worried about what could be lurking under the Aero side skirts!..

POST 12Original post

The area around reverse wire grommet looks badly corroded , if you took that grommet out, i'd imagine it'll be very bad in there. Interior would need to come out to address that. It looks like it's been used all year at some point in it's life , I'd look for a better one and pay more.

POST 13Original post

I think a lot of that is surface and could be cleaned and treated depends how much you pay for it and how much you want to get your hands dirty could be a good investment

POST 14Original post

In the 70's they used to slap on some underseal and no one would ever know
