Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Is this the correct decision or is there a reason for using the Classic Oil I should know about?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All
My 996 Carrera 2 is due service next month and talking with local Porsche dealer I have been advised to have the classic service but go with mobile 1 oil.
They have agreed to charge the same price as the classic oil as quoted by Porsche Classic. As I already have mobile 1 top ups and have used it my Cayman S for years I have agreed to go this route. They have concerned that this will meet the requirements of the Classic register and be better for the car.
Is this the correct decision or is there a reason for using the Classic Oil I should know about?
Looking on another post in the Classic register there seems to be a lot of confusion over the oils.

Cayman295, As mentioned above oil is if course a personal thing and some decide to go their own way for various reasons. If however you do go with the standard spec of Mobil1 then may be helpful to know you can great deal on it at Costco.
I know it’s not much use if you do not have one nearby or are not interested in membership - but if you can get to one then they have a good deal on the suggested 0W40. That is the suggested one that I believe the dealer would use too, also on the Mobil1 website if you use their selector.
I always buy it in bulk so I have plenty to hand and I’m sure you could give it to the dealer to use.
Big debate on having the dealer do oil changes too of course as these are old cars now and dealers may not be the most knowledgable anymore but we won’t get into that on here!
Good luck

Thanks for the comments. I went for Mobile 1 5W 50 the previous service used 0W 50.
I am however confused over the Porsche approval comments as the statements below come direct from the Porsche Classic oil website.
The experts at Porsche Classic developed these engine oils with the help of engineers at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach and a German oil supplier, formulating them especially for the requirements of flat engines in 356 and 911 models (including the type 996), all four-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines, such as those in the 924, 928, 944 and 968, as well as the Porsche Boxster type 986. During development, the oil was subject to extensive laboratory and field tests designed to check its running performance and lubrication properties. Porsche Classic Motoroil is available in four different variants: 20W-50, 10W-60, 10W-50 and 5W-50.
