I remember reading a road test on the VX220 and the tester not being able to get the 5.6sec time quoted by Vauxhall (they were dropping the clutch at 5K).

First point to note is that I wasn't going to drop the clutch at 5k RPM, and so decided that if I wasn't going to do that, I might as well just use a repeatable launch tactic.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Very nice, but thought you'd bee out in London Town 2nite.What sort of camera is it,and how much as lookin into getting on me self. Simon

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, here is a link to more: www.fotango.com/cgi-bin/public_gallery_item.cgi?id=125963&ORIG_REFERER=public_shares.cgire The light was shit and the images need to be sized correctly. They are actually quite high resolution but FTG compresses them. I'll keep playing, and if the weather is nice tomorrow i'll post some more. The camera is a Fuji MX-2700. It's a couple of years old and the raw images are fine. It's just a bit slow. At my parents house for a couple of days. Close to murdering someone at work so decided it was time for a break. Lots of nice roads up north (Chester(ish)), and I have just been bought an AP-22 accelerometer from the wife That plus some mad high speed driving over the past couple of days has brought the blood pressure down...

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No brasso, never cleaned the engine. It's just Porsches don't spray oil everywhere Well gave the car another good hiding today, and also configured my AP-22. Here are the first set of results (which need some explaining before anyone starts laughing). ---------------------------------------- 60 ft 2.62s 0.68g 31.6mph 1/8 Mile 9.30s 0.15g 82.1mph 1/4 Mile 14.01s 0.08g 103.6mph 0-60MPH 5.77s 0.43g 278ft 0-100MPH 12.37s 0.23g 1072ft Pk Power: 96.5mph 11.69s 974ft 310hp Peak G: 8.7mph 0.56s 2ft 0.91g ---------------------------------------- First point to note is that I wasn't going to drop the clutch at 5k RPM, and so decided that if I wasn't going to do that, I might as well just use a repeatable launch tactic. That was basically to feed to power in from 1.5K. You could really feel the car bog down. Anyhow 0-60 in 5.7 not bad considering. Next interesting number is 0-100 in 12.37 secs. Remember this is with a 0-60 some 0.7 slower than book value. Interestingly my 0-100 time is almost exactly what Porsche claim. Evidence that the car is pushing out more than the stock 320BHP. So on to the BHP. 310 at the wheels, approx. 355HP @ FW(with 15% transmission loss). All very good. Next embarrassing number is 1/4 mile. My only excuse is slow start and ringing every last rev out of 2nd and 3rd to get high HP figures. It is clear from other runs I have done that you should really be changing up around 5.5K RPM. More results as they come…..

POST 6Original post

Nice pics - lovely car! The times you recorded look pretty good if you think about what happens in a mag road test. Presume they drop the clutch at 5,000 (ouch) or something like that! Have you ever been able to find out their procedure? I haven't, but I bet it's harsh.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I remember reading a road test on the VX220 and the tester not being able to get the 5.6sec time quoted by Vauxhall (they were dropping the clutch at 5K). Vauxhall came back and said they dropped the clutch at the red line, ouch! I'm quite happy with the 0-100, and I think I can improve on that. The BHP figures are a bit subjective, as it is quite hard to calibrate the accelerometer accurately. I'll keep on fine-tuning and try and verify via some other means... >> Edited by Ultra Violent on Monday 1st April 23:23

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are actually 996/Boxster wheels. They looked really bad when the offset wasn't corrected with spacers. They don't look that bad now. I'm still hankering after the 3.6 split rims though, ummm....

POST 10Original post

UV - ring Ray at Northway ( www.northwayporsche.co.uk if I remember) as I think he has a set of 3.6 split rims in with rubber for a grand. Rgds Dom

POST 11Original post

yours look great but i must admit that I think the split rims look better, extremely agressive etc etc. It was you I saw a few weeks ago btw.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

on the phone as we speak...

POST 14Original post

Let me know if you buy them UV. I'll claim a pint as commission next time we meet up ;-) (In fact Scottster told me about them, so maybe that's a half each.)

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I buy them you may have to pay my mortgage this month This whole Porsche ownership thing is getting very much out of hand. Now, when are my seats being recovered... >> Edited by ultra violent on Tuesday 2nd April 14:50

POST 16Original post

If you spend as much on your house as you do on your car, I'm a dead man...

POST 18Original post

AND I was going to buy the wheels Domster!!! But as you've told everyone else I guess they're gone... Never mind, good job I'm not disclosing the location of those 18" 993RS split rims going free to a good home Only joking, let us see piccies when they're on UV (the car that is, not you) Laters

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's a bit mean of Dom not telling me you were going to buy them, especially after I paid him £50 What's the world coming too. Scottster, if you are serious let me know. I'm sure I can do you a deal... only kidding. Let me know.

POST 20Original post

Scottster is winding you up. He is after a set of 18 inch turbo 4 hollow spokes, not some 3.6 split rims. Well, that's what he told me, so if he was lying I guess he got double bluffed himself! Besides, those Boxster wheels need sorting on your 3.3 more than the 17 inch turbo 4 replicas on Scottster's 993. They look OK, but obviously an extra inch really matters to Davey ;-) Rgds Domster

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Scottster, i'm not renowned for my generosity and you go and pull a stunt like that Funnily enough there are some hollow spokes for sale in this months 911 & Porsche world. I've a good mind to buy them myself

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Went down to Northway today to look at the 3.6 rims. They are in pretty good shape, basically each rim has a spot where the lacquer is starting to give. There are no curbing marks. Very tempted. Anybody want to make me an offer on a set of 996 rims (almost new rubber on them)?

POST 23Original post

C'mon UV. Stop that dithering now. 1) Refurbishing is as little as 26 quid a rim, I know a few places if you don't 2) They cost 1300 quid EACH from Porsche. Ray's little deal sounds okay to me, and if the rubber is shite he knows a friendly and local rubber merchant who'll oblige for a good price (just ask him). Keep the existing rims for trackday use, or with winter rubber on. Or flog them in 911+PW mag in the free classifieds. Rgds Domster

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My head says yes my wallet says no. Which is not so bad as I can't remember the last time I listened to my wallet

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh, he was offering £300 trade in on my 996 rims (3 perfect, one with a small mark) which have new SO3's on back and nearly new conti's on front. Should I trade or try and sell?????

POST 26Original post

I agree with Domster's pricing but that depends of course if they're original 3.6 turbo ones (ie: with little clear 'Official Porsche' sticker on the outside polished part of the rim) or afer-market ones. Not that it really matters, just big diff in price. I'd go for it, sod the wallet, they'll look the bo**ox. I was wondering what he'd give me trade in on mine too, same as you I guess as I have nearly new rubber all round too. Still torn between a set of 993 RS splits or 18" turbo directionals. Will the RS wheels look a bit overkill unless I do the rest of the RS look, (which is probably not good value for money anyway) when I could happily settle for a C4S look (still quite nice).... Or should I just save all my pennies in case I need to play catch-up when Dom buys a 993tt

POST 27Original post

Well, if rubber was shot I'd say 300 was good. As it is it ain't bad. Maybe he'd go to 350. What is rubber like on the speedlines - maybe get him to put 2/4 new tyres on for you and go for 300 p/x. I'd say his splitrims were cheap enough to go for though, in any case. Your car will look a ton better with them on. Only thing that lets it down in my book. Rgds Domster

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, i'll get them. Dom i'll forward my bank account details, can you send this months mortgage please

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just experimenting with a digital camera and thought i'd post some pics of the car. I have more but just want to see how it works out before posting more...
