These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The two knobs on the radio are melting and have become sticky like they are covered on toffee. Does anybody know if new ones can be sourced? Thanks ian

POST 2Original post

Porsche list spare control knobs in the Tequipment parts lists. Part Number 996.645.901.00 @ £12.28+VAT each. The radios are made by Becker, so you might find alternative suppliers a bit cheaper.

POST 3Original post

B4 buyimg new. Put them in some washing powder solution overnight that usually does the trick.

POST 4Original post

Interesting post, I have the same issues, I was just concerned about asking for help for a sticky nob ! I assume the offending item just pulls off ? 75 PNO

POST 5Original post

They just pull off - as per the attached technical bulletin. Download

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you Richard, they are past the soap powder solution. Kind regards Ian

POST 7Original post

Just to give an update on this. The parts are definitely available through Porsche. I just ordered two for my 996 from Porsche Brooklands - £16.32 each inc VAT, available in two days. Can't wait to not have sticky knobs!

POST 8Original post

I took my sticky knobs off and de-greased them with an APC! lol. Good to know they can be purchased if needed though I think a few years of sticky fingers before me and the make-up build up in some places wasn't ever cleaned as well as I would have done Just my seat backs really to tend to next, but all in good time

POST 9Original post

Also listed on e-bay, I'm torn between new knobs or a new Continental DAB radio with retro looks and amber backlighting. Might try the soap powder solution and stick with the CDR-22

POST 10Original post

I have been looking at changing my stereo back to an original Becker one. Unfortunately it was changed out in 2009 for a fancy (at the time) Kenwood double din sat nav. I have had a good look through the paperwork and have no reference to what it came with. I would probably look to get hold of a CDR-22, although I suspect it may have come with a PCM1 unit. I am guessing I will need to get hold of a new cage for a single din stereo. Will anyone do, or would I have to buy a Porsche specific one? I haven't come across any used ones on Ebay. I have seen that I need to buy an additional surround to move the heating controls up above the stereo as well. The whole thing is a bit of an effort, but really don't like the aftermarket one thats in there the moment.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
