Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Although I have been a Porsche 356 and Early 911 owner for many years, I recently purchased my first water cooled Porsche, a 2003 996 Targa with 54,000 miles I have many questions about this amazing car. None about the IMS bearing. I plan to replace the factory shock absorbers because they are failing. I would like to retain the stock ride quality while lowering it a bit, mostly because I think it will look better. After many years of using Konis on my 1969 911, I favor Konis to replace the factory Bilsteins. The Special Active Konis are the direct factory replacements and are my first choice. Then, against my best instincts to modify it, I checked out the Sport Konis with lowering springs. My 1969 911 was lowered so low that it scraped dead squirrels off the road and it rode like a go-kart. It was as stiff as a board. My wife would not ride in it. My new to me 2003 Targa is a limousine by comparison. So, I am concerned about maintaining factory ride quality, if possible. Have any of you installed Sport Konis with the lowered springs? How did it change the ride quality? Specifically, did it ride like a truck compared to your stock, factory springs? Same? Better? What are your recommendations to retain stock ride quality while lowering the stance? If this topic has been covered in a previous post, I apologize. Please steer me to that post. Thank you.

POST 2Original post

I have a 2001 C2 that came from the factory with sport suspension that I changed to sport konis with H&R springs , the ride is much nicer with the Konis , not so harsh but still firm, as far as how much it was lowered it looks to be about the same as the factory sport suspension.

POST 3Original post

I went with RoW M030 springs and Koni Yellows on my 100K mile car. (I also refreshed the flexy suspension bits at the same time.) The ride quality improved considerably. I've since turned the shocks up to a stiffer setting; it still rides better than the old stuff. You can look through my "forever" thread to read more and get more details. Suspension blathering begins in post #62. I was originally going to use Koni Actives but they weren't available at the time with no firm arrival date. I'm perfectly happy with the Yellows. A lot of folks on here will encourage you to go with coilovers, and they will say that ride quality can be at least as good if not better. I don't doubt them. I chose what I did for my own strange reasons. EDIT: RoW M030 doesn't really lower the car a lot, which I'm happy about. I like the ground clearance. They do change the stance, giving the car a bit of a forward tilt, which I also like.
