Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

porsche 911 996 3.4 Carrera S Tiptronic 1998 | eBay UK Porsche 911 996 Carrera S Tiptronic. Quick back story, sadly a year ago my mother-in-law’s husband passed away. One daily Gemballa GT550 and this 996 911 for weekends / special occasions. I already sold the Gemballa last year to a nice chap from the Midlands and now the 911 is up for grabs. ebay.us After the other rather rusty aero I posted up wondered what people’s thoughts were on this?

POST 2Original post

It'd have to be super super cheap as alot not to like about it, for me anyway.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok what price would you be thinking and what’s the negatives ?

POST 4Original post

Money pit and you'd still be left with a 'wrong spec' car at the end of it.

POST 5Original post

Personally i wouldn't be thinking about it at all. Wrong indicators, calipers, wheels and that's just from a glance. It looks like it will need thousands spending on it and if that's the outside what does underneath look like...... plenty more better than this available and it's a late 1998 car not a 1997. Not even sure if it's a 2wd or 4wd from the pics. Steer clear would be my opinion.

POST 6Original post

Obviously very rare, it’s the 3.4 Carrara “S”

POST 7Original post

Wasn't the tip branded as an S due to the gearbox..?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 2800100

It's a 996 Carrera Tiptronic S. Some V5s will show the S in the wrong place.

POST 10Original post

It's a 2wd. It's also a bit of a dogs dinner and hasn't been looked after IMHO. The coolant tank looks empty. Stoopid air intake. turbo centre caps. And the MOT history makes interesting reading: Oil leak, but not excessive Nearside front anti-roll bar linkage missing - WTF??? Offside front anti-roll bar linkage missing - WTF??? -4,251 miles travelled since last MOT (least you can time travel in it). ....and it's only done 9,000 in over 10 years. Will pull £8k.

POST 11Original post

Has others have said, depends how cheap it goes for - certainly seen worse for sale and it will get the aero kit lovers all moist so will probably push the price up. If its cheap enough, it will end up at the usual breakers who can probably make money from it. Only real way to tell the condition is to go and view it and see what it looks like underneath Recent MOT history seems clean enough, even though there are gaps - and we know that doesn't help when cars are left sitting for long periods of time. Based on others we've seen recently at the lower end of the price range - sub £10k and its probably worth a punt

POST 12Original post

Sorry guys but with those extended exhaust tips it looks like an ugly silver wheelbarrow and i'm surprised nobody's mentioned the fake wooden trim inside either.

POST 13Original post

That looks rough and I’d be worried about how much needs replacing after looking at the photos

POST 14Original post

The engine mounts are ready for the bin along with many other parts of no doubt, but on the plus side it's unlikely to have bore score and the tip boxes are pretty robust so it's low risk regarding the drive train if you want a runner. Wheel arches look ok from what i can see so it may be quite solid, further inspection needed. i give it the benefit of doubt and a 9.5k score.
