Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I need to replace the retaining strip on the rear bumper, which I have. Part number 5 on this diagram -
https://www.design911.com/diagrams/d/40952/0
It is held on with blind rivets, which I also have. But, at each end there are screws that go through it and help hold the bumper to the car. I cannot find the exact size or part number for these. Anyone got any ideas?
Are they the same as part 7? They do not seem to link in that diagram, so don't think so. Its just odd it lists the rivets but not the screws.
Thanks!
The rivets just hold the retaining strip to the bumper, the screws go through the strip and the bumper to screw into the heatshield that runs along the back. Looking at the diagram again, it is possible they are part 7, although I am not sure they fit into the speed nuts (part 9). There are two/four part 7's that go into the side heatshield's as well.
The two screws I got out yesterday are also nothing like part 7 either, but that doesn't mean they are the originals.
From memory the 4 screws at the back and the 2+2 screws on the rear sides are not the same (5 size difference), but they are both tappers nonetheless. I can't say for sure but T15 for the sides and T20 for the rears or vice-versa, something like that.
Thanks, that's useful! Funnily enough, the ones I have at the side were T30 and the rears were Philips which is why I suspect they were not the originals.
I called Design911 and they agreed it wasn't clear, and weren't sure what they should be either.
Yes! That could also be the case, Philips does ring a bell. I do remember them not being the same screwdriver bit for sure but fuzzy on the details.
I'd check for you but I've had to replace mine with zip ties as bimetallic corrosion ate away the heatshield where it met the bumper holding strap (diagram part 18) - which themselves completely disintegrated. Do you still have them on your car?
A good question! I haven't taken the bumper off yet, I was working on getting those two seized screws out first. The side ones seemed to release fine. One side on the old retaining plate doesn't seem to have anything to screw back into, but the other does. Although when I put my hand in there, the heatshield itself seemed to be intact and solid.
Once I get the bumper off I will find out. The joys of corrosion!
I took the bumper off at the weekend, my retaining strip was beyond cleaning up. I have three screws, four rivets. But only the two outer screws connect to the heat shield, I had to modify the screws to get them out. Got a new retaining strip from 9apart on eBay for less than £20 this morning there’s a few on there.
For this sort of stuff I just get new 'spire clips' loads online and then go to Westfield Fastners and get stainless self tapping screws an washers.

Porsche part - 999 073 227 09 Tapping Screw 4.8 x 19.
Used in various places from front and rear bumper to trim fittings. I've replaced mine with stainless self-tappers with the same head profile everywhere I've found them on the car. Available off eBay from a number of vendors.
