Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Well my 99 was failing at 113k miles when i had it replaced along with leaking rms.
i bought my '99 in 2018 with 52,500 miles on it but I still have had it replaced along with the clutch assembly and flywheel and had the 60K service package done because the records with the car were incomplete.

I also replaced the stock exhaust with the fixed PSE mod from a 2002 3.6L 996 and it makes a great exhaust note under full throttle without any drone.

Suggestion
Replaced it with a cylindrical roller bearing from Vortex and was going to do the same thing with the 1999 996, however, discovered that has a replacement engine with the larger single row bearing which can't be replaced without splitting the cases.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I sold my 2002 996.2 a few years back and I couldn't stay away. I am back in the club with this beauty. Any thing I should know about the 1999 vintage?
That looks good. Main thing is it has the very robust dual row IMSB. You won't have to worry about that. Very nicely detailed. You need a new upgraded expansion tank cap. Black is the old one and is prone to leak. Buy a new one, blue, and ends in part number 04.
1999 hands down is the best year Porsche 911 because, well, because I have a 1999! Beauty car there, love the color which goes well with the saddle interior. While its true the 1999 has the dual row IMS bearing, it should still be changed out as part of a clutch/pressure plate/throw out bearing service at about 60K miles. The dual row bearings, while more robust than their successor single row bearings, have been known to fail. My 1999 Boxster had a factory dual row bearing which I was replacing as part of the aforementioned clutch service, and it was very wobbly indeed at 72K miles. Replaced it with a cylindrical roller bearing from Vortex and was going to do the same thing with the 1999 996, however, discovered that has a replacement engine with the larger single row bearing which can't be replaced without splitting the cases. Best of luck with your new ride! BTW, I'm across the Burlington-Bristol Bridge in Burlington Twp., and play hockey at Grundy ice rink in Bristol.
Perfect color / interior / wheel combo. I’m sure you know that the 1999 cars have the desirable cable throttle and supposedly better heads than later models.
Well my 99 was failing at 113k miles when i had it replaced along with leaking rms. So not always the case. Had I gone with "dual row so you'll be fine" i'd have a blown engine pretty soon
Thank you. Im enjoying it. The throttle cable makes it drive pretty different from the 996.2.
I cant find the build date, MY1999 with vin ending in 24880 so Im guessing sometime in early 1999. But someone may know better than me. One of the options on the code sticker is 436 (3 spoke wheel).
+1 on the Arena Red and Savannah interior. My '99 has the exact same interior setup with Arena Red exterior but I have a 4 spoke steering wheel that I just recently had refurbished. I like the 4 spoke wheel. This was a handful of colors that carried over from the 993 and was discontinued in either '01 or '02.
+1 on the IMSB replacement. i bought my '99 in 2018 with 52,500 miles on it but I still have had it replaced along with the clutch assembly and flywheel and had the 60K service package done because the records with the car were incomplete. I'm the fourth owner of this car, now with 63K miles on the odo. My IMSB was solid but the seal was shot and all the grease had washed out and was surviving on what residual oil could make it to the bearing. I replaced it with the LNE bearing after the engine was certified to be a good candidate for the bearing replacement by my indy mechanic.
There isn't a lot of aftermarket performance mods for the 3.4L engine but there is a lot that can be done with the suspension and some other aspects of the car that really enhance the driving experience of these first gen 996s. I put in the 997 GT3 shifter as one of my early mods and it made the shifting so much more enjoyable to the point it felt like a different car. I also replaced the stock exhaust with the fixed PSE mod from a 2002 3.6L 996 and it makes a great exhaust note under full throttle without any drone.
Enjoy the car. Yours looks amazing!
