Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am 7 months and 1,600 miles in and finding lots of things about the car, the over riding factor is apart from the increase in petrol prices its all going well. The slightly noisy front diff/gearbox needs investigating but making it significantly better might be above my pay grade. I did pick up whilst logging the extensive service history that the gearbox and diff oil had not been changed in the last 8 years so I had them both done and it is possibly a little quieter. The history is very comprehensive with a £5.4K bill in 2023... Theres a scary bill every 3-4 years or so and it seems like each of the 11 owners has had one at that sort of level and then the sell the car..... Fuel economy has been a huge surprise at 30 mpg on a run and 24ish around town unless I go mad. There have been a few battery issues due to lack of use, but only a couple of times. It has a recent Varta battery and I've had the frunk or the central locking not work twice but I do use it quite a bit. Sundays we go out for a good run and in the week I run it to the Swimming Pool and back and this keeps the battery up. It has had a few longs runs of over 120 miles there and back and was fine. The car does take a lot of battery to get it going but so far it has been ok. In April I will get the brake fluid changed which is due and the spark plugs done. I am going to change the tensioner, serpentine belt and air filter myself soon and I have a replacement door lock as the window drop isn't working on the drivers side. I have done the bonnet struts and the pollen filter which were easy. I do get the annoying twits trying to race me all the time but I am a model or restraint, electric cars can out accelerate me but as soon as the road is twisty they disappear into the rear view mirror. I am really enjoying the car, it is such a privilege to own the thing and the midnight blue sets it off and is such a great colour. Being totally stock including the Becker/Porsche CDR-22 stereo I think it is cool just how it is. I hope we enjoy many more fun miles in the car.

excellent, preserving Porsche history is important pics ? check this thread out for the diff issues Q Thread 'Prop/Front diff knocking noise 996t' 19 May 2021 Hi all, I've recently bought a 996 turbo s manual. I've noticed a clunk noise from roughly below the centre console area when coming off throttle and going back onto throttle at lowish speed. I'm guessing there must be some sort of rubber bush on the prop/front diff that is worn. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? Tried searching on here but no joy. Thanks quattro20v Replies: 8 Forum: Porsche 911 996 (1997-2005)
