Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

996 central locking and alarm problems resolved because I found it was the radio saying it was open, but..
I can’t quite get the radio back in without it switching to open - don’t know why or what to do any ideas?
The first one is closed and the next one is open
I don’t understand what’s happening between the two points - any ideas?
There
theres a micro switch somewhere in I guess the radio that indicates when the radio is secured in the console, in the icarsoft the switch is marked as open when not secure or closed when it is secured, I can get it nearly flush in the console as “closed” or secure but then it switches to “open” - I think I might need to take the case of the radio and figure it out from there.
Yes it must be that, I figured it might be those blue catches that the removal keys retract but didn’t know it might be just one of those, when you say left I’m assuming that’s left with the display facing you? I’ve spent to long trying to resolve the horn sounding on locking or unlocking
have you resolved this yourself?
I don't know why you don't want the horn to beep when you lock the car, I made mine do it on purpose, but anyways...
It is not a micro-switch but a ground contact and it is behind the CDR actually, see this post for a clear pic
Confused about radio alarm contact
I recently installed an after market head unit and did nothing to the alarm contact or wire that goes into the radio harness. When the car locks, I get a single beep (which I expected based on what I read.) It sounds like the recommendation is to cut the blue/brown alarm wire and ground it. Would...

The plot thickens, the circuit is supposed to be “open” not grounded, it’s “closed” when it’s being stolen because it grounds against the chassis of the radio, so the horn honk on mine is from another source. I really thought owning a 911 I’d be doing mechanical restoration not being permanently distracted by anti theft switches
I replaced the passenger door lock mechanism and everything is perfect now, my advice would be to start with both driver and passenger locks as a first solution if there are locking and two alarm beeps - it’s £50 pattern parts from eBay on a 20 plus year old car. Simple thanks for the support with this.
Yes I really needed a win, next to fix the targa - I think it’s a micro switch in the the rear window lock mechanism, then the rear brakes inc hand brake shoes and then a suspension refresh
