Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
You can choose from different ratios depending on how you are going to use your car.
Leading evidence: 'Use car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After reading threads and threads and threads of LSD info, I cannot find a few key points (talked about without definitive answers) . . .
1. Who makes the best LSD for a street driven G96.01
2. Can a G96.00 or Boxster S LSD fit a G96.01
3. Aside from the diff itself, what else is necessary for the swap
Alternatively, if anyone has a G96.01 with LSD for sale under $5k - message me.
Thanks.
Guard is regarded as the best. You can choose from different ratios depending on how you are going to use your car. Street only, combo street track or track only.
As to your other questions, I personally wouldn't mess around with putting an Oem LSD on my car, I would go with the Guard, which is what I did with my 996.2.
If you don't already have one, find yourself a good Porsche Indy with a strong DE/Club racing clientele. They will have the experience in dealing with Guard and ratio options.
IMHO, an LSD is one of the most important upgrades you can make to your 996 for handling, stability and control for the street and track.
Hope this helps to get the discussion started.
You will never notice an LSD in a street-only car. Save your money.
Yes.
In terms of parts, you'll need to reshim the differential to reestablish bearing preload and ring-to-pinion backlash. Fresh differential carrier bearings, radial oil seals, diff cover plate o-ring, and if your output flanges are retained with circlips versus center bolts, fresh circlips.
To your point, I would agree with you that if you are a leisurely driver in a warm weather climate, you will never know the difference.
However, if you are an aggressive street driver who loves to rip thru the canyons and/or drive in all 4 seasons, it's an upgrade that you will notice, and once you have experienced it and the benefits, you will want.
For the track, it's a must.
