Its serviced every December so I've never needed to check the coolant before,it's the first time in 10 years so didn't think too much of it.

Found the source of the leak, I did change the old cap anyways but its coming out the front passenger side when under pressure.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got coolant low warning on the dash the other day and needed to put in 5L of coolant, it was really low. Its serviced every December so I've never needed to check the coolant before,it's the first time in 10 years so didn't think too much of it. The next day the coolant light went again and I had to only put in about a litre and a half to get it back up. I thought maybe I just need to add a little bit more the next day as the coolant had a chance to run through the system. I've had the car parked for two days and I've checked the coolant and it hasn't moved at all so it doesn't seem like there's a leak. I guess I've heard about there being issues with the coolant cap or cracked expansion tank but not sure where to check it. It hasn't leaked while sitting there for two days, could it be something that happens when the pressure builds? Any insight would be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Once the coolant gets low, you get big pockets of air throughout the system. You need to run the car a few days and keep checking the level and topping up as necessary until it settles. Also, if it leaks, it's usually when it's up at temp and under pressure.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks @Alex good info to know about the topping up of the coolant. I was just surprised that I needed to add almost 5L and then it took 2 more the next day. Suppose i will give it a bit of a drive over the next couple days then, will pick up some spare coolant first. I tried looking for cracks in the reservoir but it’s pretty tight and I couldn’t see anything. Shoved a camera down in the side and it seemed ok, but not sure where the cracks would normally show.

POST 4Original post

If you want to see if its leaking, go for a drive and get it up to temp, then leave it running parked up for about 20 minutes. If there's a leak you'll know about it. Watch for steam coming up around the front wings and also around the engine compartment, also dripping coolant on the floor underneath. System holds 20 litres in total, for reference.

Seeing as I had something similar happen a couple of weeks ago, I might save you some grief and money here. The amount of coolant I lost was between 5-7L in total so very similar to you. If it's the coolant cap, it will only happen under a lot of pressure that the coolant starts blowing out the overflow pipe onto the exhaust headers. You'll see a lot of white smoke as it burns. To confirm, order a new coolant cap and with the old and the new in hand check the action of the relief valve on the inside. If it seems different, that's your issue. An indie will charge you 2 hours of labour to pressure test the cooling system drain and refill if you want to go down that route (excluding worse scenarios like the water pump or the expansion tank failing).

Found the source of the leak, I did change the old cap anyways but its coming out the front passenger side when under pressure. I dont see a clamp or anything here, how is this fitted together and can it be fixed with a new clamp or does the pipe need to be replaced? Also the rads had been replaced already so quite sure its not leaking out from there. Here's a video if that helps: https://photos.app.goo.gl/awdZ2Ve5Fue61EPd8

I can't tell exactly where that is on your system (which rubber pipe), but they should all have jubilee clips or equivalent on them. Like the pipe on the left in this image:
