I was considering just using duck tape on the one that I have, but I can just do without the car for another few days - the weather is all over the shop anyway!

Top tip is take the MAF out as it gives you a wee bit more room to wiggle things and don’t be scared to use a little force to get the plastic pipe into the rubber!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
911uk: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I was surprised as anyone when it actually fully solved it!
It's a grand for a new one (but a few used ones on ebay)
Any thoughts on whether that could be plasti-welded, or whether I can duck tape it up ?
I'll take it to my mechanic and give him a look. Looks like it's been fixed before TBH
Bloody car - I was looking forward to using it properly with it's new battery in it. I was out urban driving this morning and it kept going to stall, thus stop start traffic wasn't very pleasant.
HOWEVER, given it's on the intake flow of the MAF, I'm not sure why it then would affect things like a leak on the output side of the MAF, albeit it can't be easy if the volume of intake air is changing in a hap-hazard fashion!
There's a bit of technique required to remove the airbox on the Turbo without straining anything and it's a robust moulding so whoever broke that in the first place didn't have had a clue!
The maf needs a nice straight air flow to read correctly so I can see there's a good chance it will read wrong if the air in being sucked in at an angle through the broken bit, also that air is not being filtered either which is not great.
I think its nylon reinforced plastic which is not the greatest for gluing, you could try gluing, or maybe glue and reinforce with small metal brackets or something, but it would be best to find a good second hand one!

I'm fairly sure it's this, it was fine before the air fiter was last changed .... I think I know what happened. I suspect it was fixed in the past, and a clumsy change has weakened the fix and it's now broken completely - I'm fairly sure it wasn't broken like this when I was in at it 3 weeks ago, but I can't be sure!
Somebody else has tried to fix it by the looks of the brown glue around the edges.
Your replacement should sort that out, MAF will defo be affected by that as others have said.
Ok just fitted the new airbox. My guidance is:
1) pay someone competent to do it
2) set fire to car, then yourself!
Took me over an hour to get the airbox into the intake pipe - I can now see how these can end up broken!

Best news is car is driving perfectly again, even boost coming in earlier now obviously the MAF is signalling the DME properly - whew
Oh and the scrapyard airbox came with a MAF so I’ve got a spare for another time ;-)
I’ve also now got a spare airbox clip - if anyone wants it tell me and I’ll pop it in the posts gratis, I get a lot of help from you all
Well done, it’s great when a job like this goes to plan and actually fixes the issues, I’m chasing a potential air leak, these cars are simple but also very complicated.
Funny you say that, about it going to plan - after almost an hour of failing to get the intake back on I had that sinking feeling that yet again I was going to screw something up, snap a clip or similar …. But took a short break, went back to it and managed to complete the job
I was surprised as anyone when it actually fully solved it!
