I don't really use the CDC and was hoping the loop would work but as the optical cable appears broken I suppose that idea is off the table.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After a week or so of problem solving and searching on various places on the net I'm struggling with what was an intermittent fault with my pcm2. Some days it worked. Others it didn't. When it didn't I'd get the "sysyem error: amp, CDC, phone not available" I assumed a loose connection or a damaged wire somewhere. I pulled the frunk apart, took the head unit out and checked the connections and the fuse. All fine. Checked the footwell fuses. stereo, sound package & telephone (unused) All fine. The CDC makes a noise when you power the ignition on and the mag ejects so I'm guessing the changer fuse hasn't blown. I left the radio unplugged for 2 hours. Plugged back in. No better Checked the back of the radio and the optical light is shining out from that. Took the optical cable out of the amp. Red light coming out of the cable Took cable out of CDC. No light. Given it a wiggle both ends but no life. I even bought an optical loop and tried that on the changer, with and without power. But I still get the same error on the radio. So can I assume that there's a break in the cable going from the radio to the CDC? Id replace it but I'm guessing it's not an easy job and more hassle than it's worth. I don't really use the CDC and was hoping the loop would work but as the optical cable appears broken I suppose that idea is off the table. I'm not really sure where to go from here. Have I missed something? Any help appreciated

POST 2Original post

Might even be something inside it, that is loose or has expired ? To your point you’ve checked what can be seen and checked

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To satisfy my curiosity I've just taken the back off the changer and the fuse is fine. So still stumped and wondering what to do next

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Question. Does anyone know if the cd changer will need coding out in order to remove it? I've found where the optical cable enters the frunk and discovered a connector on the bulkhead. I've unplugged the loop which runs down to the changer and back to the amp and plugged a new optical cable directly into the amp hoping to bypass the changer and the broken loop. Unfortunately I still get the error message on screen and no audio in the cabin. Any ideas?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So further investigation. Made up my own replacement optical loop and tested that and couldn't get any audio still. Whilst chopping and changing connections I noticed the small loop I bought to test the changer was broken. So I made another myself and tested it on each of the components. I could get the signal to move around the frunk plugging in the changer but couldn't get the signal to return from the amplifier. Which leads me to a likely culprit. A dead amp. So I'm now wondering, do I replace the amp or do I replace the whole system? Replacing the whole lot removes the original equipment (bad for resale and costly) Or... buying an expensive used Bose amp to retain the average factory audio (unit may eventually fail again) What should I do?
