1/98 996. Had 1k idle when warm so cleaned the icv and that fixed that issue. After cleaning, noticed revs were hanging just a hair in between shifts on cold drives to work so I took the ICV back out and cleaned it a bit more. Also noticed the revs would shoot up to around 2.4k on cold starts, then settle normally within a second. Idles normally around 740 when warm and doesn't bounce, just the weird jump when first started cold and the revs hanging a tad between shifts when cold. Assuming this is normal? Edit: on warm starts, idle hits maybe 1.1/1.2k then drops to ~740 immediately.

The cold start RPM jump happens because the oil pump needs to be 100% clear of any air that may have gotten in there due to the car sitting. It�s programmed into the cold start procedure, and I�ve found on my 99, how high the RPMs jump up is dependent on not just temps, but also how long the car sat. So a few days cold start, and my car hits 2,000 RPM no problem. Restarts won�t hit as high. Once warm, my engine idles at 675 with the AC button off, or 800 with the AC button on.

Thanks Mike. Trunk lid says +/- 700 in the upper left hand corner for proper idle, so I think we're good. 2.4 was a bit exaggerated - more so around 2k like yours. I've been way too paranoid owning this thing....

If u heard my motor on a cold start u would crap your pants. The mezger rattles like crazy for 2-3 sec before the oil quiets it down

Yea but still couldnt get my front o2s working. Gonna do a bunch or pin and wire testing this weekend. If all is good ill send the dme out next week.
