I had a similar issue with my litronics, it was the adjuster rod for the dipped beam had come adrift allowing the beam to point upwards.

I ran with the thought that some decent LED bulbs from Classic Car LEDs (as suggested on this very forum) would help, even a bit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Friends. I spent money on some LED bulbs for my 996 as driving in the dark was quite a battle. The lenses on my headlights are not the best and I have attacked them with the usual polishing kits. They are much better than they were, but still far from ideal. I ran with the thought that some decent LED bulbs from Classic Car LEDs (as suggested on this very forum) would help, even a bit. These arrived and i have been fitting between meetings. The joy of working from home!! I noted that on the drivers side the mechanism holding the main beam bulb moves up and down quite a bit. This made me remember that at the last MOT, my friendly tester informed me that the angle of my headlight was out. I have seen this too then queueing in traffic on the backs of vans. The drivers side headlight was always aimed too high. The passenger side is held solid. I can see some complex white gears etc inside and wonder if this is the self leveling system. Why might the passenger side be loose? Pictures to be added. New iPhone is uploading as MP4s and HEIC are not valid - argh!!!!

POST 2Original post

It could be the light unit itself that is not clamped in the cradle correctly after you've replaced it. Check that first, then try adjusting the beam up and down with the rear adjuster and see if it feels loose. See diagram on how to adjust:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not litronic - cheapo halogens.....

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In this photo, the whole mechanism moves up and down by around 2cm.

POST 6Original post

The adjuster may have popped off the ball joint

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Alex you were 100% correct sir. A hex head screwdriver in the adjustment hole and it adjusts the vertical aim. However, it seems that my adjustment is broken. I simply got it to where I think it needs to be and added some wedges to hold it in place. Rear cover back on and back in the car tomorrow.

Thanks for confirming. I had a similar issue with my litronics, it was the adjuster rod for the dipped beam had come adrift allowing the beam to point upwards. Easily fixed.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All done. Much better lighting, but i am worried about blinding on coming traffic with my new bulbs. Will try soon if it ever stops raining!!!

POST 10Original post

Do the bulbs have a similar heat sink to the halogens? My only concern with these types of after market bulbs is they can have a tendency to burn the the inner lens, which seems quite common on the 996.1, maybe that’s different on the 996.2

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The bulbs have cooling fans in them, so should dissipate heat well.

POST 12Original post

Hi Ray, did u get a chance to try them ? Looking forward to any feedback.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the interest. I've been using the car as my daily for the last couple of weeks, using it both in the day and night. The headlights are now superb, 'day and night' difference. Well worth the money and if you buy from classic car leds, you have some guaranteed a decent product which doesn't burn the lenses. A picture frim this evening.... I just need to change the main beam and side lights to led next. I will get these from thr same place as service was great and the products are excellent.
