so I'm new to porsches, this is my 1st one. 1998
boxster base
and after having a ton of sports cars ... i see what i was missing lol I am a member of another
boxster
forum and came cross this one and thought I'd share my wide body build. since I'm quite a ways into already I will just give you lots of pics. my method for making parts/molds may not be yours but .... i don't care lol constructive criticism welcome but "your doing that wrong and my dad can beat up your dad" comments... its just a car and there are plenty of ways to skin a cat
its all about enjoying your car and projects. this isn't my first wide body. i have a pretty sick custom vette i did the exact same thing to.
so the
porsche
is wident 2.5 inches and i am using 11" rims. tires in the pic which are going on the rims are 325/35/19. i am redoing the hard top as well to look different but i have not started that yet.
I am also swapping in a 3.8sc motor into this car as well. I already have the
boxster s
trans, adapter kit, etc. this motor will be fast, cheap, and reliable. i will be putting down about 350whp which should be plenty for a 2700lbs car.
ok so here goes the pics.
New body GT kit
Welcome to anudimension.com
nice looking car
mine is coming along nicely.
I really like the new look. Where can someone see it in the wild? Would really enjoy knowing more details about how you did it and what problems you ran into along the way.
I am located in michigan. car has been on hold for a little bit as i moved to a new house. i should be back on it in about a week. i will post up some pics soon.
no "problems" to think of since its kind of a diy project. all i can say it patience.... it just takes time for this stuff if its just a side hobby.
i still love the car and love the look i've created. cant wait to get it done. i've also started rebuilding the motor i'm swapping into it as well so the motor swap will be soon after the body is done.
thanks
brian
so I started fitting the front bumper I bought last year... not such a good fit. I need to trim the rubber air dams(about to where my finger is pointing to in the pic below) and either cut the lower lip of the aluminum bumper or trim the bumper bringing the mesh forward... not sure which way I'm going to go yet. also need to really bend the sides inward to get them to there mounting location. not to impressed with fitment.
plan on putting in the middle radiator while I'm at since the bumper is off so i have enough cooling for the motor swap.
finally bonded one of the rear side bumper parts I made to the rear bumper. Second side should be done tonight. Then I'll start making the molds for the rear quarter panels. pics below
On a side note.. went to the
porsche
dealer in birmingham to convince my wife we need a new
911
... succeeded
lol should be pulling the trigger at the end of summer
well the rear bumper is mounted and secured. sorry if theses posts seem repetitive and doesn't look to different from previous pics but there is actually hours into these little changes lol should be making the rear quarters bucks by the end of the week. very happy with the way it fits on. i'm not to the pretty work yet but I'm making good progress.
Quick update
success!! my first part is pulled. came out pretty good, and popped with ease. i need to clean it up, trim it and stick it to the car. than i can start doing the bondo and pretty work. drivers side shouldn't be to far behind.
i would love some opinions on rear wings. i want something back there other than the factory wing. not to big(ricer) but something that stands off the a few inches but still looks classy.
