I installed the Schnell unit on my '99 C2 Cab back in 2005 and loved it - never had a problem and as far as I know the new owner who purchased it in 2006 has never had a problem.

I see the topic of SSK has been beat up tremendously however after exhaustive searches I only find Schnell SSK options being used many years ago with most folks opting for the B&M or factory units now.

they tend to wear quickly and shifting is not as silky, B&M uses teflon...

I installed the Schnell unit on my '99 C2 Cab back in 2005 and loved it - never had a problem and as far as I know the new owner who purchased it in 2006 has never had a problem. Now I'm looking for a SSK for my 2002 (just purchased, pictured coming as soon as the *$#*ing foggy, damp mornings on the Calif. coast clear) and see the Schnell shifter and shift link kit offered by Vertex for $149 but don't see anyone opting for using this one lately. Did I miss something in all of my searches?? Was there a reason people migrated away from Schnell and leaned toward the more expensive B&M or the outrageous factory models? What changed in my four years out of the country?

Got my B&M about 4 years ago from Vivid and love it. Also put in the Agency Power link that I think makes a big difference in the "sloppiness" of the shifter. The OEM links are plastic junk that wear and become loose and sloppy. I think a lot of people blame the play on the shifter rather than the link.
Seems like a lot of owners are going with the Porsche short shift kit or the 997 shifter. There are also the cheapo eBay ones that some have tried. When you look at the kit there really is not that much to it.

Ive had the cheapo SSK and now have B&M.... the play is in the cheap plastic spacer in the shaft (the slop is side to side at neautral)... they tend to wear quickly and shifting is not as silky, B&M uses teflon... a better feel and longer lasting.... the throw is very notchy and require some more effort (compared to the stock units) on the SSK. so having top notch materials is essential for longevity.
