Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've only had to drill one out and didn't find it too hard, although I used various drills to do it, was a long time ago but think I chain drilled a load of holes in a circle just smaller diameter than the sensor itself, then went in with a 16mm drill I think.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is now my third speed sensor that needs replacing, Ive already done the front offside and rear nearside last year, now the rear offside needs replacing. I’ve had to drill out the first two, absolute PITA job, not looking forward to changing this one out knowing the issues ahead. For the last two days I have been spraying with WD40 (I’ve I’ve already removed the bolt) Anyone got any tips before I start this project, knowing that the main body will break off and the drilling commences. I’m just hoping and praying it comes out in one piece like all other car manufacturers seem to, why is Porsche so badly designed. Anybody had any success removing these in one piece and if so HOW? heat gun? Impact driver strategically places? A tap of a chisel and hammmer on the metal surround of the sensor to try and jolt free?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes it’s easy when not is situ but thanks for posting. I mght video and post up a link if it would help anyone else as there doesn’t seem to be any videos that show how to do this when the car is in one piece.

It's not the design that's a problem, it's the fact they are put in dry and left there exposed to the elements for 25 years.......most cars have been scrapped by then.

POST 6Original post

Didnt someone on here make the tool to drill out the centre bolt. I wouldnt mind buying one if anyone has one for sale. BTW, Good video, very informative.

POST 8Original post

I have a few of the jigs I made for that first video. DM me if you are interested. MC

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All drilled out see pics below, however it seems it’s the reluctor ring that is the issue as it is loose. It can be spun from inside the sensor hole. Any ideas how to swap out the ring, is it a home job or should I take to my indie? For anyone interested see below for what is usual for removing the sensor or what’s left of it

POST 10Original post

You need to remove the hub carrier from the driveshaft. Driveshaft can be left on the car whilst you do it. Bit of a PITA mind.

I don’t have a lift, it’s just on Jack and an axle stand, do I need special tools?

POST 12Original post

You need to undo the big nut off the centre of the axle (with the car on the ground) then undo the suspension components and pull the hub carrier out the way of the driveshaft. You then have access to the ring and can put a new one on.
