Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I've just bought my first 911 and so joined the club.
Sorry if I'm asking a daft question, or posting in the wrong area, but I've looked through the subfolders and this looks about right.
My car's a 996 Targa and I'm trying to locate a pair of replacement gas struts for the rear glass. The ones fitted are Stabilus and appear sided L/R and have electrical terminals (I'm assuming for light and demister). After an hour on google I've given up, as there seem to be such a wide variation on price and brands that I'm concerned I'll buy the wrong ones.
Can anyone let me know where to buy the correct ones at a reasonable price?
Thanks
Hello and welcome Leigh,
I'm sure someone with more knowledge of the targa will pop up soon, but if not, if you live near a Porsche centre, theyve always helped me locate PNs. I was stupmed on a Hard top not having the righ fittings (difference between Gen 1 and 2 996, who knew?) and they gave me the diagrams and PNs I needed.
As its a BH, Id wait until ppl get back online in the week and sure you'll have help soon.
Ta

Hi Leigh
And a very warm welcome to the club and 996 ownership.
The struts listed in the PET part numbers are listed below, as you say seem very expensive at £206 per side.
996 562 429 00 left hand
996 562 430 00 Right hand
good luck and enjoy.
Andy
Thanks Mark and Andy,
I’ve been doing some more digging around over the weekend and now have the OEM part numbers. Stabilus (0694SB and 0695SX). These are the Stabilus Electro-Lift product so, in addition to the usual specification: stroke, force, anchor points, they also have a current carrying capability.
Autodoc sell them for £102 each, so I’ll probably end up getting these.

I‘m slightly caution of this approach as, having worked as an engineer in automotive and now renewables for many years, I’m aware that ‘nearly the same spec’ Isn’t always appropriate.
As I’m enjoying scratching this itch, I’ll carry on for a while and post any further info.
